very emotional, severe mood swings

Help!! I don't know whats wrong with me. My tvh is scheduled for this friday, 6/15/01. I have been screaming at my kids, 8, 14, & 16. Kids will be kids and they are truly wonderful but every little thing they do I over react. They tell me "Mama you are being mean". That hurts!!. I cry over stupid little things. I seem to be very emotional & a nervous wreck. I called the doc, they say I'm just getting anxious about the surgery. He put me on Ativan twice a day, seems to help a little. I hope that this emotional rollercoaster is all due to the fact that I have a cycle every 2 weeks & that my hormones are crazy. I am anixous to get back to my OLD self again.

Hi! I know just what you mean about being an emotional wreck and having mood swings. I had a D&C and hysteroscopy a couple of months ago and I was so scared I could think of nothing but that, which of course, made me over-react to little things my children did as well. My husband finally asked if I was okay and told me I was not acting like myself because I was yelling at the children (ages 7, 9, 12) over practically nothing! Then I cried because I knew I was and I couldn't help it. Now, I have just found out I am going to be scheduled in late August for a TAH and again I am scared. I have began taking Lupron injections and I am beginning to experience some depression which is just not like me. I have always been so strong no matter what came my way. Just take a deep breath and try to remember you are on an emotional rollercoaster right now. I'm sure you are worried about what is getting ready to take place and at times like that little things do seem so much bigger for the moment. Sometimes we need to just go outside or into another room away from everyone and everything just to take a breather and tell yourself everything is going to be okay. Maybe you should sit your children down and explain to them that you are just not yourself right now and let them know how they can help. Your children are old enough to help out and most likely it will also make them feel better to know they are doing something to help you out.

nacooley - What you're going through is normal..pre-op is VERY emotional. You're surgery will be here before you know it..then you'll be totally focused on recovery. Hang in there.

I am going to the castle on June 15th also, 11:00am, TVH, leaving ovaries. I am experiencing mood swings too. I guess the fact of the matter is I'm scared. I hope I can handle the post-op side, like, how much pain is there, and so on. I am on day 23 of my cycle, so I don't expect my period to show up before Friday, but I know the hormones are in full blume. I can be ok one minute the next be in tears. You are not intentionally being "mean", your just scared too, it's one way of handling the unknown, cause lets face it, we don't know what's going on while we are being operated on. It can be overwhelming. You'll be ok, just hang in there. I'm trying to keep my mind occupied and not think (dwell) on Friday. My DH was being very distancing, but I guess after he had his time of contemplating the situation, and is coming around and being very supportive, I guess he is scared too. We all use different ways of handling stressful situations, although some ways are not always the best, everything will work out just fine.
