Ward or semi-private?

I apologize for what may seem a trivial question, since many people have such severe problems to think about. But can anyone tell me whether I should bother getting the semi-private room that's covered by my extended health plan? The thing is, semi-p would cost more, and if I am going to be completely conked out, maybe I should stick with the ward. Or can I expect to be alert enough to be bothered by the extra comings and goings in the ward?
Again, apologies for a trivial question -- but the extra dollars count!

Ward or semi-private?

I think that you need to do what you think is best for you. If you are a light sleeper, I would suggest the semi-private. Fortunately for me, all the rooms on the floor that I was on were all private and I definately needed that. Also, depends on how long you're going to be there....if it's just overnight, I wouldn't bother, but if you're going to be there a couple of days, I would get the semi-private room.

Best of luck to you.

Ward or semi-private?

I had a private room and I much appreciated it. It was bad enough that my husband was with me as I attempted to get up, walk around, wrestle those clot -reducing boots (what are they called?), deal with a catheter, all bare-bottomed (hope I don't shock anyone here). A little privacy is a good thing and I was never in such a state that I didn't know what was going on around me once I was out of recovery.

Ward or semi-private?

I would ask which ward you would be in. Make sure you will not be in the labor/delivery recovery ward. Then you could be sharing your room with not only another person, but also a baby who might be rooming in. Any usually women who just had babies have a ton of visitors, too. But if you are just in a post-surgical ward, it should be fairly quiet. I plan to ask when I pre-register at the hospital. No offense to my lovely children, but when I'm at the hospital, it will be a mini vacation from little people, and I'm sure that the ladies in labor/delivery just had perfectly delightful little children, but I don't want to live with them, you know?

Ward or semi-private?

I didn't even know wards existed anymore. I had both of my children at different hospitals (6 and 1 yrs ago) and had a private room at both.
I agree that you need to do what is right for you. If you are a light sleeper, then a semi private would be the best option. If you are more of a social person a ward might be a better choice for you. Just do whatever you feel would make you most comfortable. That's what it's all about in the end.

Ward or semi-private?

I had a semi-private room but was alone the whole time which I absolutely LOVED! The nurses at my hospital told me they try to keep you alone in a room unless they get really busy, which they didn't as I was the only one on the maternity floor for about two days.

I was so glad to be alone, though. I'm a very private person and never liked sharing a room when I had to years before.

But it's your own personal preference and best of luck.

Ward or semi-private?

Thanks, everybody. I'm seriously thinking of the semi-p, I think all our ward rooms here are four beds, but I just recall the last time I was in a hospital overnight there was lots of noise and coming and going.

Ward or semi-private?

I picked the hospital that only offers private rooms. If I am feeling badly I do not want someone else in there with me who feels badly too or is (worse for me) cheery and talkative. I want quiet! I think it is selfish of me on one hand and the "me thing" to do on the other hand. After all, if I am not good to me how can I expect others to be good to me.

I also would go for the semi-private. My hospital actually gave me a private room for no additional charge and I liked that very much especially since I was in for 4 nights. Good luck and hope you have a speedy recovery.
