estrogen/progesterone/testosterone?? help!

I'm new to the hormone jungle. I had my TAH/BSO Dec 29th. It was kind of an emergency procedure and I had no time to research before. I was put on the Climara patch the day after the hyster. I had severe endo. and with some of the posts I've read I wonder if that was a smart move...but my question is..how do you know what hormones you need?? Some are on progesterone, some estrogen and some on both...and then there's testosterone (which I know I don't need since I have PCOS) how did your docs determine which to put you on? I had my 6 week check-up, he wrote the prescription for the Climara patch for 11 months and said " See you in a year" I am researching now and just getting more confused. I do have a few symptoms like having trouble sleeping and some tachycardia but is that enough to change my hormones??? Any help would be really appreciated...Thanks

estrogen/progesterone/testosterone?? help!

This is why they call it the Hromone Jungle, chicagocubs...some of us have been hacking our way through it for years!
About 18 months after my LAVH, I was about ready to lose my job, my marriage and my sanity because I was feeling so lousy. I had a doctor who wanted to help me but didn't know how. I finally called a compounding pharmacy and asked for names of doctors who used their pharmacy to help post-hyster women. I found a doctor (an hour away, unfortunately) who actually TESTED ME FOR HORMONE LEVELS (what a concept), and she has me on: Climara, compounded testosterone cream, prometrium for progesterone, DHEA, thyroid, and Vagifem for vaginal dryness. You are still pretty early in your recovery, so what is appropriate for you now may need to be tweaked ina few months or years (or not at all). If you have confidence in your doctor, stick with him--but if you are concerned about his responsiveness to your needs, then you may need to go doctor shopping.

estrogen/progesterone/testosterone?? help!

chicagocubs: we are around the same age and had surgeries within a few weeks of each other. I too had endo. I was reluctant at first to try any HRT, but in the hospital I was having terrible hot flashes. So I left with a vivelle-dot 0.1mg and a script for 12 months' worth. No hormone testing either.

Unfortunately, many doctors are not trained in post-hyster hormone replacement, especially for women like us who aren't even near menopausal age. I called a local compounding pharmacy and got a recommendation. I am going to see a nurse practitioner who specializes in natural hormone replacement. My appointment is April 3. So until then, I will just have to wait it out and do some more research.

If it makes you feel better, it has just been in the last week that I have been able to sleep. I think some of it was still post-op stuff, and some was getting used to the vivelle-dot.

estrogen/progesterone/testosterone?? help!

Thanks for the advice..I am going to talk to my primary care doc about the tachycardia. I have had times where the heart rate jumps up while I'm just sitting or laying down....my heart rate also takes a long time to go back to normal after exercise. I did 30 minutes of cardio got up to 160 and now and hour later its still 120...I cooled down, stretched etc...That just doesn't seem right to me.. I'm sure I'll figure it out in time...just gotta have patience, right??
