Bald is beautiful!

I've survived my first hairless week with little fanfare. I still get a little caught off guard looking in the mirror, but it's fine.

Yesterday was chemo #2, and my bloodwork came back good.

I made it through a full day at work today. A little queasy, but okay. I can tell I'm starting to fade, but it felt good to be able to function for a while, knowing the next few days won't be as good. The steroids do a number on my concentration, so it will be interesting to see if any of my work today makes sense next week!

I'm having lots of fun trying on different hats. I think people are having even more fun finding hats for me!

I'm trying to be more careful about staying hydrated this time around.

So, just had to share my sort of goofy mood! Happy Friday everyone!

Bald is beautiful!

And a happy Friday to you beemer!!! I know about that "deer in the headlight" look when you catch yourself passing a mirror...it is a little unnerving. While I have my hair back now, it's not really MY hair...it's curlier and more unruly...so I still get my moments of "who is that?" when I go by the mirror. However, at least it doesn't still feel like a steel wool brillo /sos pad on my head (that went away after the first cut). A few more haircuts I'll get my naturally wavy hair back.

And, while it may take a while, you'll finish chemo and start sprouting hair again. For now, try to enjoy the good things about the "no hair" look: you can take a shower and get out the door faster than you ever have before or ever will again!! You save a ton on shampoo and other hair care products (I bought a huge bottle just before my second surgery in September 2005 -- I just finished it off in December!!!! Of this year!!!!) You can wear those cute hats.

Now stay hydrated....stay positive...treat yourself well the next couple days (lay back and rest, rest, rest!!!).

Bald is beautiful!

Bet you are cute. My hair is so bad I told my best friend that if she had good hair she would have to go. We both have awful hair and have tried everything thoughout the years.

One time she gave me an egg white treatment and then put my head under hot water. Well, it cooked the egg on my hair and it took days to get all the white specks out. Another time it was a hot towel treatment and we forgot the towel in the oven and it caught on fire.

We loved the good old days when women wore those hair pieces, where we just pulled out hair back and stuck on the curls.

Bald is beautiful,
Juanita

Bald is beautiful!

Bald IS beautiful! My Dad, mr. tough guy himself, told me I looked great with no hair. I loved the smooth feel of my head and the freedom from fashion, making sure my hair was *just right* every day. Losing my hair made me realize there are many more important things in life than your hair. In fact, since chemo, more than 2 years now since my last treatment, I still keep my hair short. It is just sooooo much easier!

Speaking of goofy moods, when I had no hair, a friend sent me a baseball cap embroidered with *BAD HAIR DAY* on it. I thought it was hysterical. I was SO tempted to cross out *bad* and replace it with *NO*, but I didnt . IT was like a private joke when I wore that hat. It was great fun!

Bald is beautiful!

I'm soo glad you are taking to it soo well. I actually wish that I would go bald!!. My chemo is making my hair thin out, and just look nasty. So I keep it under scarves, and such, and nobody can tell that I actually have hair. I really wish it would just fall out so I can start over new.

Congrats on feeling so well! My mom had her 2nd treatment Thursday also and she is feeling it today. Last time, she didn't get sick, but this time, she's almost thrown up twice. This will all pass though...

I'm glad you feel comfy being bald! Here is the video of my big "shave-off" in honor of my mom (houndfolks1):

Just click the little picture and it will play it. Please excuse my big mouth! I don't know if it was adrenaline or what, but I seemed to yell the entire time!

She ended up losing the rest of her hair this past week and she wears her wig. She's just not comfy going out with hats.

jbeemer,
You are finding a lot of the fun side of no hair. We never imagined we would find fun things about it when we learn we are going to lose it, but we do.

No more bad hair days, not having to spend money on hair care products or hair cuts. Hey, you will even get to put the razor away for a while. When you say give me 5 minutes to get ready, you are ready in 5 minutes. All the funky hats you can wear.

You have a great attitude about it all.

Bald is beautiful!

The funny thing is, for years I've been threatening at work that I'd shave my head the day I retired. It's one of those things I've always wanted to try for some reason. Now I don't even have to explain why! It's interesting how wigs work well for some, while hats work great for others.

Today wasn't too bad, chemo-wise. I've been able to eat here and there, and I've been awake all day, which is a big improvement over the first chemo. Kinda queasy, but bearable. If tomorrow isn't much worse, then I think I got away pretty easy this time.

Beemer - welcome to the smooth scalp club I hope you continue to feel good, too, and not have too bad of symptoms. My symptoms always kick in on the evening of day 2 after chemo and are worse days 3 and 4 - what kind of chemo are you on? Enjoy the benefits of not having to mess with your hair and take good care!
