Mini period 2 mos. in a row
Looks like I'm that small percent with mini period woes. Kept ovaries, kept cervix and just like clockwork same time these last 2 months, just spotting. My doc wants me to wait 3 months to see what happens. Reading the article on this site it may go away after time. This month is a tiny bit more than last month. Does it get worse?? Does it get better??
Anyone else going through this?? An option is an ablation of what's left of my cervix, but I don't want to go through another surgery! :burning:
Thanks for any input,
Margaret

Hi luvmyrotts,
You have some very good questions. I wish I had more information for you. I'd like to encourage you to call your doctor to see exactly what types of options are available. It's possible you wouldn't need a large surgery, and they could give you some very good information about what the ablation involves. It's my understanding that the ablation is often an out-patient procedure, but perhaps some of the other Sisters have some input on this?
I hope you find the answers you're looking for!

Thanks Movingforward!
I will discuss options with my doc. She did mention the procedure could be done in the office, I just didn't want anymore downtime. In the grand scheme of things a couple days of spotting are waaay better than before. We're talking of weeks of heavy bleeding. Thanks for your reply. BTW this site has litterly saved my sanity to all of you sisters

Mini period 2 mos. in a row
Sorry if this question comes off as rude but honestly just curious why when having a hysterectomy would you want to keep your cervex? Why do some women keep them and some not? I really don't understand as my OB/GYN told me when I asked about this "Why would you want to keep something that could get cancer later?" Then after reading about the mini periods I was kind of glad my is gone. I really don't understand this?

Some people feel that if there have been no problems with the cervix, there is really no reason to remove it. I had to have my cervix removed, had no choice, but many women feel that they want to keep it if possible. If you're having regular Pap smears, the chances of cervical cancer are pretty low and the cure rate is high, so I wouldn't worry if I still had mine in place. A mini-period is not an automatic thing, not everyone has them, and I guess they tend to be very light.

Exactly! Regular paps, kept it for support like she suggested. Didn't mention anything about the mini period tho. Wish I had found this site before my pr-op. It wasn't until a panicked phone call I was informed I am that small percentage As the article said it's nothing more than a nuisance, I was just wondering if there is anyone else here that is going through the same thing.

Mini period 2 mos. in a row
March 9th will be 1 year for me..I kept my cervix and ovaries. And I have not had 1 mini period!! When my doc did me he cauterized my cervix..I have never had a bad pap. My doc told me to keep it for that reason..And he said women claim to keep their sexual fuctions..And I will tell you I have more fun with sex than I ever did before

My cervix was supposed to be removed but ended up being left, due to various complications during surgery ...
As I understand it, if the cervix is cauterised then you shouldn't experience mini-periods. Mine wasn't and I have! But, if it makes you feel better, mine have got less and less and less ... and now they don't even require a liner anymore. Just a couple of 'smidgens' on a couple of wipes of TP!
I'm always quite glad to see it, actually, as it's a good indicator that my ovaries are still doing their job! The cervix isn't capable of producing 1% of what the uterus did ...
it may be worth seeing how things go ...I'm glad I did!

Rabbit, There is some evidence that keeping the cervix offers more support to the vagina and pelvic floor (less chance of vaginal prolapse) And there is a lot of anecdotal evidence that it does play a part in sexual funtion....(although many women who didn't keep their cervix report that their sexual pleasure is not diminished...just different)....Those are the two main reasons that some women choose to keep thier cervix if they've never had an abnormal pap.....It's why I kept mine...I'm only 2 weeks out so I don't know yet about the mini periods...but my Dr cauterized the cervix, and she said that in her own practice, she's never had a patient my age have them...In her words, it's usually the younger women with "nice juicy ovaries" who have them! (and my thought is "juicy ovaries? " lol)
