Granuloma in groin...anybody ever have this?

I had VH with rectocele and cystocele repair about 6 weeks ago. My recovery was pretty uneventful (except for post op pneumonia)...but the surgery recovery just wasn't that bad and I'm pretty much feeling "normal" in the "nether regions" at this point.

But a couple weeks ago I noticed a small lump in my groin, so I had the surgeon check it out. It's right where my leg joins my body and just below the insertion point of the sling.

He tried to aspirate it, but nothing came out, so I've been on antibiotics with instructions to "watch it" and call him if it seemed to be growing. I didn't check it for about a week because I wanted to give it time to calm down from the aspiration technique, but I checked it on Monday, and it was definitely bigger.

Called the urogyn's office Monday, they saw me that day and scheduled me for surgery tomorrow to take "it" out. He had originally said he might be able to do it in the office, but changed his mind and wants a hospital setting because he doesn't know how deep it goes. (this surgeon is meticulous and a professor at the local university, so he always does things "right"...I really trust his expertise.)

He says it'll be interesting because he has no idea what "it" is. Maybe a granuloma. Definitely not a lymph node because he said there are no lymph nodes in that area. Since it's right below the insertion point of the sling (porcine dermis graft), I'm wondering if it's an inflammatory reaction to the sling, but if so, why just on one side, not on both. I guess the path report will tell the tale.

Anybody else ever have anything similar? I'm not too worried about the surgery, but the healing aspect of an incision in that spot seems a little ouchy...guess it'll be more baggy underpants for me while it's healing.

mschickapee, that does sound odd. It makes one wonder if your body is rejecting the sling or the sutures or whatever is right there? Let's hope that it can be taken care of quickly and with this one surgery. I haven't heard of any one-sided granuloma but who knows? We sure haven't heard of everything here. Sending BIG S and hoping ALL goes well in your trip tomorrow.....
