?? post op symptoms

It's sure been a while since I've visited the boards here. I had my hysterectomy a year ago October. I had a hysterectomy, but the dr left my ovaries and cervix. ?? for anyone who has had this type of hyster...do the ovaries die eventually without a uterus? Meaning, will I experience menopausal symptoms earlier than normal? I'm 35 now. I am so moody, have been ever since the surgery 1 1/2 years ago. I'm sad. Then happy. on and on. I feel like it's just been a roller coaster! I feel heatlhy otherwise, other than having to go on blood pressure meds about 5 months ago. Any help. I feel desperate for answers. Maybe a trip back to the gyno is in order. Not sure.

Nikimcn,

I would see if your Dr. could get you in. I have mentioned this to my Dr. when I went last into my semi-annual. From what I can remember your ovaries still produces eggs but your body absorbs them, but I dont know how long they continue to do this. But I would defanietly(sp) call your dr.

I am 4 weeks post op and kept my ovaries and cervix. From what I understand your ovaries can go for years without the uterus. However, I had night sweats for about 5 days at about 2 weeks and my dr said if that continued he would test my hormone levels if my symptoms continued for a month. Plese call your dr. Hope you feel better soon and that this is nothing. I was also told we will can still experience pms symptoms which sounds like you might be having.

I kept my ovaries, too and still have pms symptoms. Sore breasts, etc. around the time I would have had my period. I too had adenomyosis, but I had my cervix and my uterus removed. It will be a year since my surgery in two months. My OB/GYN told me that my ovaries should remain active for a few years. I notice dryness (which I solve with gel from the drugstore) and moodiness/depression. I had cysts they have had to watch on my ovaries too (so I know they are still working) but they are gone now -- functional cysts. I can't take estrogen replacement because I developed DVT post op and you can't take estrogen with DVT. I think you should call your dr. and ask. Let them know that you feel sad sometimes. I don't know if the sad spells that I have are from the hysterectomy or from the dvt.
Good luck (hug)

thanks for the responses so far. yes, very moody. mostly sad moods. and it will come on all of a sudden. it's just gotten worse since the surgery, although i've kind of had that off and on my whole life. i was on zoloft for a while about a year or so ago and it kept me up all night, i was frantically cleaning, etc. lol. thanks. any other responses would be awesome too!

I'm afraid I don't have anything to add, but I just wanted to say "howdy" to a fellow Arizonian! I'm down in Vail (just outside of Tucson).

Hi nikimcn,
I was wondering if you ever talked to your dr? I'm kind of wondering if my surgery will make menopause come early. I just had my 6 week check up last week, but of course I forgot to ask him..lol!

Btw, I hear that we're in for a really hot summer.. UGH! It's nice to have the 80 degree temps right now, but I sure don't want the 110's this summer.
