3 week break during middle of 6 sessions of brachytherapy. How will I feel?

The radiologist/oncologist has just recommended 6 sessions of brachytherapy of the vaginal cuff. When I casually mentioned that several months ago, (long before I knew I was going to have a TAH-BSO) I had planned a very special 3 week trip to Italy with my granddaughter at the end of April. He quickly replied that he had no problems with me making the trip. He said they would do 3 treatments before, and 3 treatments when I return. While I was certainly encouraged by his optimism, I am also wondering how I will really feel at the end of the 3 sessions. Any and all advise will be greatly appreciated.

brachytherapy -- internal radiation -- is a lot different from external radiation, and you should be able to make the trip just fine. You'll be tired, but functional (unlike external radiation which causes major exhaustion). You may have a few symptoms, but most radiation symptoms for gyneo cancers are caused by "spillage" into other organs (such as the bladder and rectum) -- the great benefit of internal rads is that it is much more directed to the source and there is little, if any, spillage. Ciao!!!!

I had 4 brachytherapy sessions after my external radiation treatments. Other than the uncomfortable situation of having many doctors/nurses "observing" the procedure it was a breeze. I didn't experience any adverse reactions. I do suggest that you remember to do the "stretching" excercises that will be recommended to you.

I had 6 brachytherapy treatments and with my doctors okay- I went directly from my last treatment to the airport and took a 5 hour plane ride to bring my son to college. I was a nervous wreck not knowing how I would feel and knowing radiation builds so you tend to get more uncomfortable towards the end. I had very little, if any side effects after 3 treatments. Even after the 6th treatment the side effects weren't very managable. I was taking epsom salt baths at the hotel to help with the discomfort and managed just fine. Enjoy your trip!!!
