Questions for surgeon before rectocele repair

Hey all you wonderful sisters!
I am going in on April 3rd for my rectocele, cystocele and vaginal vault repair...I have some questions for my 2 surgeons.
When I had my hyst in 2004 they left my ovaries...I want them to check them when they are peering into the abyss...I also want them to check for endo on everything because I battled endo a lot as a younger woman and am worried that I still may have some that is causing some of the "phantom" pains...Does anyone know if they check for all this stuff as a matter of course or should I go ahead and ask?
I am also concerned about IC as I seem to have some of those symptoms.
I am so nervous about the post op of these repairs! I am driving myself crazy with nightmares and thoughts...fear of the unknown I guess.

I think you really need to sit down and talk to your surgeon. Most rectoceles, cystoceles and vaginal vault repairs are done vaginally. Your surgeon will not be able to see your ovaries in the "abyss" and it is not routinely done with this sort of repair. Please discuss your symptoms as soon as possible so that you can have any testing that needs to be done prior to surgery.

Questions for surgeon before rectocele repair

Hi Sistercurious,

I had recto and cysto (perminent mesh) on February 1st. I really don't think they check overies. I know I didn't give it much thought and hadn't asked. You probable should ask them before your surgery - maybe it's something they can check.

My surgery went very well. I really only found the stitches to be a major pain - and not until about the 3rd week. Now I'm doing some dribbles from the bladder - and I'm not happy about that, as I wasn't before the surgery. I'm assuming it's post op swelling, etc... Well, I'm hoping so.

A note regarding post op. NO lifting is a must!!!! I didn't lift the mild carton AND I can't do lifting over 20 pounds - FOREVER. You need to take it easy, but I think I actually was a little too much of a couch potato and lost all my strength/stamina. I would recommend short walks around the house/yard after the first week. I think it helps the stitch issue and gets you back to normal faster. I'm still feeling weak. Still haven't been to the gym. Still NO extracurricular activity.

Good luck to you! Get your questions answered before surgery day.

Thanks so Much!!!

It helps so much to hear a really good success story like yours...I have been having terrible nightmares for several nights and don't even want to fall asleep for fear they will start in again...but your thoughts helped aton! I'll bet the "dribbling" is due to swelling...good luck and hugs!
