Surgery soon - having lots of anxiety!
I am scheduled for a complete hysterectomy (due to fibroids) on March 30. I already cant sleep and am a nervous wreck. Would like to talk to others preparing for surgery. I am glad to be having this surgery, just scared of the anesthesia.

Surgery soon - having lots of anxiety!
Carleen, I just created a thread about anesthesia. I am prepared for everything esle except that. Talk to your Dr. and even an anesthesiologist if you need to. I do not want general and I am on a quest to find more info about regional/spinal and happy meds to make me sleep. We have to feel comfortable with what is happening to us. For me, this is the last step to being okay with it all.
I'm so glad I am not in this alone! We will get through this together! Keep looking at the other thread too and lets see what we learn!

Surgery soon - having lots of anxiety!
I'm scheduled for a TAH/BSO on March 30th as well. I'll be asleep for mine... and for some reason that part doesn't scare me. I think just the unknown is what's freaking me out. How will I do afterward, etc. I can't sleep a full night's sleep either at this point... and it's very hard to focus on anything for too long without reverting back to the "oh my goodness - 11 days until surgery" thoughts.
I'm trying the best I can to accept that it is what it is (I can't change anything - this has to be done).... while at the same time just repeating to myself every time I think about it, "I'm going to be fine - my recovery will be uneventful" over and over and over in my head. It seems to calm me down some.
We can pray for each other... and we can compare notes on the other side... because we're going to be great! We'll be so relieved that it's over with.

Surgery soon - having lots of anxiety!
HI -
You all sound just like me last week. I was terrified of the surgery and wasn't able to sleep for days, I actually got my period right before surgery and couldn't take advil and was in so much pain.
The surgery was so much easier than the pain and anticipating the unknown.
I did really well in surgery, (even though the doctor found more endometriosis than he thought and it took longer overall) woke up without any neausea, wanted to eat solid foods the second day. Had no problems peeing after they took out the catheter and passed lots of gas. I am now home eating well and getting lots of rest.
I think the unknown was the worst part of the experience, but I am so glad I had this done and look forward to healing and having my old energy back.
Best of luck.

Thank you all so much for your positive responses. Tracey, Let's keep track of how each other is doing over the next two weeks. It helps to talk to someone going thru the same thing.

Surgery soon - having lots of anxiety!
hi carleen! I'm up for surgery on march 23,. this friday!! two weeks ago i had a scope to find out what was going on in there. before i was taken to the surgical table.. they gave me something in my IV to help with the anxiety. I was still aware of what was going on, but very relaxed. after i got on the table,.. i don't remember a thing Maybe they can give you something similar to help? I haven't had a problem with anesthesia, but morphine after was aweful. I've heard many women don't do well with the morphine but think it's the anesthesia... i was told to ask for the pain med that started with a "D"..i guess almost all dr will know what this is? lol At this point i'm taking all helpful hints! Hope all goes well!!

Surgery soon - having lots of anxiety!
Hi carleen. I'm going in March 29, a day before you and I am like you also, unable to sleep and a nervous wreck! I'm trying to get everything ready for the family while I'm in the hospital...I like to believe they just can't get along without me, haha. But just getting things in order helps with the anxiety a bit. And when I can't sleep, I come on this website and read everyone's hints and stories and know I'm not the only one in this boat!

Surgery soon - having lots of anxiety!
I'll put in my two cents on this subject too! I find a good ights sleep is getting very difficult. One thing that I tried last week that worked pretty good was going into the spare bedroom and watching late, late night TV - not only does it take my mind off the upcoming date at the castle, the shows are so boring it makes me sleepy! Honest though, I'm starting to worry that I'll run myself down from lack of sleep, get sick and have to reschedule! Ughh.......hang in there everyone, we've almost made it!!

Surgery soon - having lots of anxiety!
I am waxing between excitement and jitters.
One minute it can't get here fast enough (3-21) and the next I am "uggggggg... pre-op, hospitals, recovery rooms, post op...."
I keep telling myself
Fibroids gone
pressure that causes pain eased
heavy bleeding replaced with possible "mini periods"
I have not been able to go to sleep before 1am the past 5 nights.
Hubby got me some brandy LMAO

Absolutely Carleen! Private message me if you'd like. (By Monday we'll probably be exchanging phone numbers!) Where are you located? I'm going to Boston for surgery. You? I picked up my bowel prep stuff tonight - Fleets Phosophosoda? Oy.
