Target Meltdown

I had expected to have a little bit of a hard time with the hysterectomy, but when I got out of surgery I was placed on the baby floor....Needless to say I was more than ready to leave the hospital. I had to go and pick up my pain meds from Target anyway so asked my friend if he would take me by there as my mom was not home. Not wanting to sit in a hot car I decided to ride in one of the electric carts. I was fine throughout the whole time...(only 15min)...till I stood up to walk out the door. I held my tummy to safe guard it I guess, and that is when a man came up to me and asked me how far along I was. I started crying, and my friend had to explain to him what was wrong. There has got to be a better way to deal with that. I already knew that I couldn't have children before..so why is it now that I am falling apart at the seams.

I am so sorry you had to hear that from that person. People sometimes just don't think before they speak.

I think it is just the finality of the whole thing that has hit you. We women who have had children even suffer the loss of womb. I was older and past childbearing and I was sad as well.

Hormones also play a part here. There is a hugh loss or imbalance after this surgery and it can make us sad or more easily sensitive. The trauma of surgery has an affect as well. When I came home I would watch TV and everthing made me sad, even commercials which was so silly. I ended up seeing my dr and he helped with a hormone patch for me.

I would give yourself time to grieve, it is normal. We need to heal physically and emotionally.

Hang in there it does get better with time.

I am so sorry. I know how much it hurts to see pregnant woman let alone being asked, "when are you due?"

I recently had a hyster after my second baby died in my womb and at the luncheon after his funeral, I was in the bathroom when a woman asked me when I was due. She had no idea I had just lost my baby and my uterus. I just said that I was due in April (which was true) and she said," I am due in May." I just smiled and said congratulations but just about ran out of the room. I was shaken and saddened by the encounter. I could not believe someone asked me that question even though I still looked very much pregnant.

I think that the realization that the hyster is so final is what is hitting you. I struggle with this too. I wonder how long it will take us not to have that hurt and tugging at our heartstrings. I wish you more pleasant days ahead as you adjust to the changes that have been made to your body. Know that you are not alone.

Take care of yourself both physically and emotionally!!

I'm so sorry you had to endure that. Of course, he didn't mean anything bad, but that doesn't help any.

I really think if you continue to have these emotional meltdowns, it would be wise to speak to your doctor and/or a counselor to get some additional help. This may all be part of your normal healing process, or they may be the signal of something more serious going on. I'm not talking about having years of therapy -- but sometimes just a few sessions of being able to talk things through can really help.

It's probably going to take some time to work through this, and really -- the sadness may never go away completely. But time is a great healer, and I that you'll be able to gradually deal with these feelings. Not push them aside or bury them, but really deal with them, because they are absolutely valid feelings.

I'm so proud that you are able to come here and share this with us. We're here for you whenever you need us.
