Finally feeling good enough to post

Hi, I made it through the comedy of errors! I had a LAVH/BSO/Anterior repair on Tuesday. I have to be pre-medicated due to a blood clotting deficiency. My Hematologist promised 2 weeks ago that orders for the meds would be there for me, but of course they weren't. It took over an hour for his office to fax them to the hospital. Then, I had to ask to speak to anesthesia, they didn't just come in to talk. I explained that I couldn't have a spinal, which was what the anesthesiologist was going to do, so he had to change his plans. I also explained about throwing up after every surgery and he said, "Oh, if I had known I would have given you a patch ahead of time". I was sooo mad, I had asked the week before when I pre-registered to talk with anesthesia and the hospital told me I couldn't until the day of surgery! They put a patch on anyway, just to see if it would work a little bit and it seemed to, I was nauseous but didn't hurl. The surgery went OK, not too much bleeding until the anterior repair. The doctor found what I had suspected, bad ovaries, adhesions, lots of endo and a swollen uterus with some adenomyosis. I have to wait for pathology to see if they found any more abnormal glandular cells. I am so happy that I had this done. I had to stay two nights due to an increased temp and not being able to eat or pass gas. The nurses were short-staffed and very surly, so I think I would have been better off at home. I spent most of the time without my pain controlled due to getting meds very late. It wasn't until the last nurse I had before I went home that I actually got care. She was an AngeI. I have had a rough time with the side effects from the medication ,DVAPT,that the gave me to help clot my blood. It causes a bad (migraine type) headache and water retention. They kept pumping me full of fluids in the hospital but I wasn't excreting much. They also wouldn't give me anything for the headache. When I went home, I discovered that I had GAINED 15 pounds of fluid since my surgery! No wonder my head hurt! I couldn't get ahold of my doc's office until yesterday morning and my doc is on vacation until Monday. The nurse had me come in and took my BP which was high. It is normally on the low side. They got ahold of my hematologist and gave me prescriptions for headache meds and a diuretic. Then they failed to put a strength of the diuretic on the script so the pharmacy would not fill it. By this time it was noon and the office closed. It took about 9 phone calls to get someone to call in a strength. Well, that did the trick because less than 24 hours later my headache is gone and I am 11 pounds lighter. My tummy is swollen, bruised and sore, but I feel so much better and know that recovery will be smooth from now on. I just wish that health professionals (of which I'm one) would LISTEN. I told them all along what was going on with my body and was dismissed. I hope all my fellow sisters are doing well, God bless you for your support.

WELCOME HOME!

I am glad you are home and feeling better. I came home from the hospital weighing 20lbs heavier. It took about 2 weeks to get back to my normal weight. I was told it was normal because everything was swollen so it was holding more fluid.

I hope you have an uneventful recovery.

Now that your medicated in the correct manner you must feel a hundred times better. All this could of been avoided had your health care professionals listened. At least you had an angel at the end of your hospital stay.

Do your best to take it easy, even though there are times we think we feel better our bodies will shout out for us to rest. So rest and enjoy being pampered.

God Bless

Welcome home. So sorry you had such a terrible experience. Things can only get better. It is normal to come home weighing more but you sure had a lot. I was only about 4 pounds above what I normally weigh which the nurses had warned me beforehand that that would be the case.
