How Many Days in the Castle for TVH?

I just need an idea from those that have had a TVH how many days/nights you had to spend at the castle. I know the insurance company has a standard number of days for the type of surgery each is having, but I also know the doctor can over ride that number if there are complications. Thanks!

How Many Days in the Castle for TVH?

Hey Lilbit!

Just asked this one from the doctors at obgyn.net! Got an answer the same day! They said one nigth even with my rectocele repair! YEH!!!!!
The only difference any one might encounter is if they can't pee after the catheter is removed. Then it is upped to two nights!
Hang in there! We are alsmost done!

How Many Days in the Castle for TVH

Hi!

I had a Lap Assisted TVH/BSO.

My insurance co. only approved 1 night. I had surgery at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday and was in my room at 11:00 a.m. so was discharged about 11:00 the next day. Really I think my dr. would have rather it been 2 nights but he had to go along with the insurance co. as I didn't have any complications. Everything went absolutely great!

Now had there been problems he could have definitely got another day approved without any trouble.

I did need someone to help with my little boys for a couple of days after I got home but after about Sunday things were going pretty well and I didn't need anyone ALL the time just some occasional help with house work, laundry, that kind of thing.

Good Luck! It's all worth it in the end.

How Many Days in the Castle for TVH?

Hi Lilbit!, from what I've read here, the average length of stay for a TVH is 2 to 3 nights. The length depends on your doctor's policies, the hospital's policy, for those of you in the US, your insurance's policy - but that can be overidden by the doctor - and how you are doing.

I live in Canada and had my TVH with rectocele repair last December. I ended staying 4 nights because I had lost a LOT of blood, both pre-op and during surgery and my doctor wanted me monitored a little longer.

Hope this helps.

Hi lilbit!

I went in for my TVH-BSO early on a Monday morning and was released late Tuesday afternoon. I was given pain meds through my IV and was encouraged, by both the nurses and my dear friend, to drink as much fluid as I could to help with urination. After the cath was removed, I took short strolls down the hall and luckily I was able to produce the volume of urine that they wanted. They removed the IV and began giving me meds in pill form. I assured the doctor that I was able to continue recovery at home and, after one more visit to the bathroom (and volume inspection) I was released.

How Many Days in the Castle for TVH?

I had a TVH, kept ovaries and did it in one day.
I was glad to be going back to the hotel (we live 3 hrs. away) and to be away from the hospital. Although it wasn't an issue of not wanting to stay, because my dr. routinely does the TVH as day surgery.
I walked, peed, kept down fluids and there was no catheter. With all the noise in the hospital, I was glad to be going home to a quiet hotel room.
Mine was a relatively simple TVH, but the fibroids were bigger than they normally like to take that way, and there was adeno and chronic cervicitis (whatever that is), too.
Unless you have other issues that would complicate matters, I would go for the day surgery and spend the night in your own bed.

How Many Days in the Castle for TVH?

Hi Lilbit, I had my LAVH on April 10th at 9:30 a.m. and was in my hospital room by 2:30 that afternoon. Stayed the first night with nurses in and out all night long and watching things closely. the next day I began to walk around the halls of my floor and had catheter removed and that evening had IV medicines removed as well. The next morning they only had one more request of my body and then I could go home to my comfy bed....right after the dreaded bowel movement (which turned out to be nothing besides normal) I was released and we drove home which is an hour drive from the hospital. The nice, quiet, familiar home setting was so relaxing and I slept for the rest of the day and night sooooooooo well:-) So for me it was a two night stay and the doctor had thought this would be the case since most of his other LAVH usually stay two nights. Remember after you arrive home to still think of yourself as a "patient" and remain in bed for most of the time because the healing will be much quicker and you will have less complications down the road. Good Luck to you and let us know how you are doing. Love, Nancy

How many days....

Thanks for all the responses!!!! I called the doctors office today and asked them. They said it would probably be two nights, going home on the third day. Of course, this is with no complications (which will NOT be allowed) . My only concern is the anesthesia, it usually makes me feel like Since my sister is making special arrangements to come over for a few days, I have now decided to follow this up with a phone call to the insurance company to verify what they are going to approve. I'll let everyone know as soon as I find out.

Hospital Stay

Hi Lilbit!

I'm also in Houston. Did you make it through the floods okay? We had no problem.

My insurance said two days. Now what exactly does that mean? I called them. It meant day of surgery and the next day. I ended up staying two nights, going home the third day. Yesterday I got the approval from the insurance for the third day.

As far as the goes MAKE SURE you talk to the anethesiologist (how DO you spell that?). I was impressed at my pre-op that he actually READ my paperwork. He noticed I have acid reflux and made note of that. He asked me some questions about what I'd written down, made some notes; and then I asked him about the nausea and he said he'd make sure he'd give me something for it prior to the surgery. Sure enough he did. I was given Pepcid, two nausea pills, and some awful tasting liquid. But I never had any nausea (except from a migraine that rated 10 on the pain scale, but that's normal for me).

Good luck.
