Blood pressure still elevated

My Dr. called me yesterday and switched my BP meds. I am told this should work nicely and that I will have to stay on it well after surgery indefinitely because I am a high risk patient. I took a dose last night and agian this morning but BP is till elevated. I am so scared they will cancel my surgery. It's not as if I can will it to go down....ARGH!

Blood pressure still elevated

If it's any help to you, my BP was pretty high the morning I was admitted for surgery...something like 154/96...I still had surgery.

Afterwards, my BP was consistently low right up until discharge. I am on a diuretic because I do tend to have borderline high BP.

My worst problem is anxiety which causes it to skyrocket.

I can relate -- and of course, it's not helping that you're thinking about your BP *all the time* now.

I used to suffer from what my doc called "white-coat hypertension" -- it would literally go UP as I was sitting in the doc's office.

You're absolutely right that you can't will it to go down -- but then, you can't will it to go up, either. Do your best to relax (I know, MUCH easier said than done), avoid caffeine and try to get lots of rest.
