Headaches since surgery

Well, I'm 6 days post-op. I think yesterday I got up/down off the couch a few too many times. I feel basically pretty good except for a headache that I seem to have everyday. I have an ice pack on my head a couple times a day. that seems to help. I took excedrin migraine yesterday because it was really bad. maybe I'm not resting enough..or maybe the anthest. is still in me??? Has anyone else had this problem??
Thanks,
Sharon

Headaches

Hi, I know what you mean about the headaches. I'm 5 days post-op right now and my head has been killing me ever since. I was thinking it was myself. Have you noticed any sensitivity to light as well. I'm on pain meds, which I haven't tried taking anything for them. Didn't know if it was a good idea. I had a TAH, and a LOA. So, the cause may vary. Any ideas would be great. Didn't think of trying an ice pack. Have you asked your Doc?

Post-op headaches

I had a horrible migraine about 12 hours after surgery June 5. (I also had a horrible migraine a year ago after knee surgery...so I wasn't too concerned.) Finally got the right meds and got rid of the migraine, BUT have had a mild migraine type headache since I came home. And what I call "swishing" in my head. That is worse than the headache sometimes. Nothing, not even my migraine pain meds, is getting rid of the headache. Just lessens it. I use ice pack OR I've put bengay (sp?), icey hot, etc. across my forhead. Smells, bu it helps me. Just be careful NOT to get it too close to your eyes. Am hoping the headaches will go away. If not will talk to my Dr. on my follow-up July 5. I've had headaches all my life and go to a neurologist for migraines; so I'm not REAL concerned about them yet. Just tired of them.

Good luck to all.

headache

Well, I was surprized so many wrote back that they had headaches too....hmmm. I use to have bad headaches, but not for some while. matter of fact, I was bragging that i hardly ever got them anymore. This must have something to do with the surgery/anthes.too. I've slept on/off all day & still have it. i've gone thru 2 ice packs this afternoon. It is located right on top of my head or one-sided. maybe I should call the Dr. He has me on a strong pain pill w/codiene in it. The only thing that made me headache free Sunday was excedrin migraine. I was afraid that since it had asprin in it,maybe I shouldn't take it....but I am tired of hurting. I had the headache in the hospital but planned that on the bed & lack of caffine I have in the morning.
keep in touch with me girls..esp. the ones with this headache deal going on. I might call my Dr tomorrow if it cont. thru tonight.
Big thanks
Sharon

Headaches since surgery

Hi, I am 11 days post-op, and had HORRENDOUS headaches after the surgery. (LAVH-BSO) I went home the next afternoon, and it felt like someone had hit me in the back of the neck with a baseball bat. Then the pain was mainly on the right side. Got a little bit better, then on the 5th day was there again, along with nausea. I did call the doc-- they thought it had to do with the anethesia-- keep taking deep breaths, and walk a little more. I was also having night-sweats, so they had me start using a patch to see if it helps. So far, it has. Make sure you tell your doc, but I am betting it is from that anethesia. Took me a while to get out of that fog. I am taking davocet for pain, what are you taking?
Take care, tell us what the doc says!
Love from Leslie

Hello Ladies

Many of you did not say if you were on HRT or not. I am 3 weeks post op and like you, I too had some headaches post op. The doctor tweeked my HRT (lower dose) and the headaches have gone away.
As far as the swooshing feeling in your head, I had this also. The doctor said that it may have been from the anesthesia or from the hormones. Once I was tweeked, this too went away. If you are on hormones, what kind and how much? I am on Climara .5mg. I was taking .1.
I have had a little bit of depression the last couple of days but don't think that it is from the hormone reduction. I am on an antibiotic for an infection and it causes depression. So I guess it is wait and see.
Good luck with your headaches and keep the faith. They will eventually go away.
Smiles and hugs!
Brenda.
P.S. When I went into surgery, I had a horrible migraine and the anesthesiologist told me that he actually puts people to sleep in order to make a migraine that is not responding to anything else go away. Hmmmmm, I wonder if it could have a reverse effect?

headache

I'm not on any hormones since surgery/ovaries looked fine. I just got done talking to a nurse & she said it could be because of the anthest.....I had general anthest. She advised drinking lots of water &Tylenol.
Sharon I'll check w/you later....good luck

re headache

I am also now six days post op I had a horrible migrane preop and they could not give me anything the anestesiologist gave me accupressure and that releived it a bit the migrane returned full force post op and the ob gyn prescribed motrin 600 mg. he said it would also help with the swelling. I have been alternating it with the Davocet and now I am down to 2 motrin and 1 darvacet a day. Call your doc and check if you can take over the counter advil or motrin. Good luck!!!
