I am having a cesarean section + hysterectomy scared to death
New to here, I am 28 years old and having my first baby on July 10th 2007 by cesarean section with a hysterectomy. I have ovarian cancer, a prolapsed uterus, and a tumor in the vagina. I am scared about everything! My husband is not being very supportive! I have lots of questions on both operations! Has anyone been in the same situation?

I am not in your position but a while ago there was a thread about a sister who had a c-section than right after the hysterectomy. I am so sorry you have to go through this at such a young age. It is a very scary situation. I think you should talk to your drs about your questions and see what they have to say. Hopefully you like your drs so trust that they know what they are doing. If you don't trust them then go for 2nd or even 3rd opinions. I am sorry your dh is not being supportive. This is such a tough time for you. But your sisters on this site are wonderful and we will be here for you. Take care and post anytime you need to talk.

I am having a cesarean section + hysterectomy scared to death
I can't imagine the fear you must have, try to focus on the blessing of the little bundle of Joy you are bringing into the world. That is horrible when you don't have the support you need at home, men just don't get it. you will find this site a wealth of knowledge and awesome support system. You can use the search button on the top right, you may also find some support on the Cancer message board. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Hugs...

 s greenterry,
I am sorry you are having to face a hysterectomy at the time of the birth of your child.
Are you under the care of a specialist? I am wondering how you know you have ovarian cancer as this can only be diagnosed through surgery. All tests before only indicate that you "might" have ovarian cancer. If they are suspecting ovarian cancer, it would be best if you could have a gyn/onc step in and do the hysterectomy.
We have had a few members face a hyster at the time of birth and I am sure someone will be along shortly to discuss that with you.
Does you husband go to your appointments with you? His going will help him understand the reasoning for the surgery as well as give him the opportunity to ask the doctor the questions he has.

I am having a cesarean section + hysterectomy scared to death
I have had that happen to me. The only difference was that we did not know that we were going to have to do the hysterectomy. I am going to try to be as cheery as I can here. At first you are not even going to notice the difference because you are having a baby and they take up most of your time. But as time goes by you will start wondering things ie will my child want a sibiling. For me its pretty fresh my dd is 51/2 months and my hyster. is 5 mos. and now I have come to the conclusion that we will take it one day at a time instead of fast forwarding into the future.
The only other thing I can say is that if you don't get this done there may be a possibility of not watching your child grow up and that is a shame. The silver lining here is that you get to be a part of your childs life.
Email me if you want
Take care of you.

I am having a cesarean section + hysterectomy scared to death
I had my rad hyst. after my c-sec. A little worse than a reg c-sec. with the rad I needed pain killers-not with c-sect (7 yrs prior). GET HELP. You will need help with the baby etc for about 3-4 wks (lifting etc will be too tough).
the good news-is that if you wish to breastfeed you can-don't need your ovaries for that. I have been breastfeeding for the last 9.5 mos -ovary free. Even breastfed while on my pain meds (took a low dose of vicadin). May take your milk a few days to kick in.
You are 10yrs younger than me so your body will snap back easier. I took about 8 mos before I was back to doing my farm work (baby and horses).
You will need a lot of support-even for the months after (hormones/emotions/etc) don't be afraid to talk to someone (especially if your husband isn't being supportive). You may have problems with sex (took me 8 mos to have anything close to good sex), emotion and hormone changes. It is tough to have a rad hyst., and even tougher with a small crying creature stealing your sleep (my baby hasn't slept well in 9.5 mos
Come here everyone has been there and have very good advice or atleast a sympathetic ear.
feel free to pmail me with anything.

ps-
two add ins-have a gyn/onc do the hyst (an ob do the delivery). I had two teams (and a baby team my baby was taken 4 wks early). I was awake for the baby then-BAM-out for the rad hyst.
and post on the cancer concerns board here, there everyone has been through the cancer-grinder and have been around for years. It is a pretty close community there.
we all know too well the ups and downs of the cancer rollar coaster.
