had it with adeno

Hi. I am new to this website, but am so glad to have found it. Jillie, maybe if you're a praying person you can ask all of your "Hystersisters" to pray that you'll be able to hang in there till June. My husband is in a nursing program right now and it's very taxing to him without being in charge of the kids and without pain. Luck and blessings to you!

I was diagnosed with adeno two years ago and got pregnant after following an alternative healthcare regimen. Now that my babe is 4 months old, my old friend the pain is back. I notice that it really, really takes its toll on my energy, especially when I resist pain meds (funny, since meds make me sleepy too, but it seems to be worse without them).

My hyst is planned for June, too. I am looking forward to it. OK, silly question, though-- have any of you ladies heard of getting a tummy tuck with a hyster? Just curious.

Thanks for the support Ellie, and a big to you! Adeno is a real monster...I know all about the pain meds. I'm exhaused right now as well. Finals are next week, and its so hard for me to study because I'm having one of those bad weeks...Yuck!! As for the tummy tuck thing, you took the words right out of my mouth!! I heard that some gynos will just remove the extra skin. If they cannot, you would have to have a plastic surgon as well as a gyno doing your surgery...plus you will have to pay for it. I was interested in the same thing...I'm having a LAVH, but if for some reason he has to convert to a TAH, I want it done. Hopefully he can do it... Let me know if you find anything out! Good luck in school!! Hopefully our husbands wont get too crazy before its all over!! I'll be praying for you to feel better!!

Tummy tuck bonus

Jilly,

Thank you so much. It must be an emotional morning because I got tears in my eyes and I haven't even met you!

I have met so many people who are like "adeno--what?" that I finally quit telling people about it. It's nice to have found a place where so many women know what you're talking about. (How much can our husband's really sympathize before they're worn out with it?)

I did find out some more about tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty). Like you said, some OB's will take excess skin, but if the loose skin is extending from hip to hip or above the navel, that changes things. You probably already know this-- especially working to be a medical professional, but a partial abdominoplasty is below navel, a full is made with an incision above the navel and the navel has to be placed higher. I've checked around Utah for plastic surgeon prices, and it runs $4,000-6,000 paid in advance (yow!) . But I kept trucking with the search and found an OB who actually specializes in laser surgery, liposuction, etc. as part of his practice. He's got a lot of experience doing hysters and tucks simultaneously. I think I might go for it.

It seems like you mentioned that it's crucial that your recovery time is as brief as possible, though. I'm pretty sure that an abdominal hyster + tuck is going to be a two month recovery. But heck, an abdominal is pretty much that anyway. I've thought a lot about the laparoscopic one, though... I need to learn the acronyms to these.

Note: If you're going to get the tuck, make sure you have a doctor who will agree to seperate the paper work of the surgeries. A lot of insurance companies and Medicaid won't pay for the hyster if they suspect it was done for cosmetic surgery.

In the meantime, take care Jilly! I hope you can catch up on your rest and feel better after those finals. I'm sending prayers your way!

I know exactly how you feel...I feel like no one understands the adeno except for the wonderful ladies on this site! My friends and family just don't understand how painful and exhausting this disease can really be...I have been on an emotional rollarcoaster since I was diagnosed...I seem to tear up at least once a day...Please let me know if you need anything at all...I feel that we are on the same journey and can help eachother through all of this...Best wishes to you Ellie...And thanks for the tummy tuck info...I'm going to call my doc and talk to him about it...I will be thinking of you!!

Thank you Jilly! I find myself a lot more emotional, too. I think the sadness is complex: the exhaustion of pain, the expectations that others (and myself) have in spite of the pain, the untimely nature of the disease, the farewell to childbearing... it's a lot to deal with. I appreciate you being so kind and supportive. I hope that you'll let me know if I can do anything for you, too! Good luck talking to your doctor!
