Weight gain due to Premarin?

Hi! I've been on .9 Premarin since 2001 - my hysterectomy and feel great on this, but have also gained 25 pounds and I have eaten super healthy and exercise everyday...and was always skinny. Since 2001, I have still been on this health regime and have not lost any weight, so am now wondering if it is the Premarin. I'd love to switch to a transdermal, so it can bypass the liver, thus avoiding other health problems, but when I tried this once before, by the second day on the patch, I had symptoms of depression, anxiety, feeling hot and quickly went back to Premarin. A bit disheartened about this.

Thanks for your time in this matter.

Weight gain due to Premarin?

I havent' been on Premarin so can't give a personal experience. But my mom and sister have both been on it for 35 and 25 years, respectively, and haven't had huge weight gains. They do occasionally battle a 5 to 10 pound gain but after a lot of hard work, it does come off. I have been on a bio-identical, estrodiol, and have had the "thickening" around my middle; not big weight gain but just lots and lots of rolls where there weren't any before.

From what I've read, it's not specifically the hormones replacement that can cause weight gain but an imbalance in our hormone that cause our bodies to react this way. And, unfortunately, it just takes a more diligent approach to weight loss to get it to budge.

Hope you find some good info!

Weight gain due to Premarin?

I gained ten pounds in three months on Premarin and changing the dosage didn't help any. After a year on it, I started in March on bioidentical cream with all three hormones and was told to give it three months before I noticed any weight loss. I have lost around five pounds and I think it was water I was retaining, because my hands and feet are not as swelled as they were on Premarin. There is definitely a difference since I have been on HRT, what caused me to maintain in the past causes me to gain, and what caused me to lose in the past only holds me steady. But I know I need something. When I went down to the lowest dose of Premarin I was an emotional basket case in a week. I don't want to be heavier, but I would much rather be at peace emotionally than thin. I am just hoping that this cream will allow me to have both.

Weight gain due to Premarin?

I've been wondering the same thing about wt gain and Premarin. I'm on .625 and tried to go off of it for a week after I'd been on it for a month but the night sweats and hot flashes were too much. I haven't gained but can't seem to lose. I'd lost a lot of weight in the last 2 years and have been eating healthy and exercising daily (once the doc cleared me) and no change in weight since before the surgery. At least I haven't gained but how to keep losing? I read some articles in the hormone jungle section and it suggests that Premarin doesn't make us gain weight but it does promote fluid retention this is all disheartening but I wouldn't go back to before the surgery for anything!!

Weight gain due to Premarin?

My experience with Premarin and weight gain was not a good one--gained approx. 35-40 lbs in the 7 months that I took it. I have read somewhere (can't recall where) that Premarin has a small amount of a steroid in it. Steroids such as prednisone (and there are others) increase my appetite and can cause diabetics to have higher blood sugars and crave. For me, it took changing to a natural bioidentical estrogen to stop gaining. Recently, I have been able to lose about 7 lbs. This was just my experience. I have met and know some women that are not overweight and have not gained weight while on Premarin. Best of luck to all.
