how long do you wear surgical stockings?

When can you safely stop wearing them? They said 1 week. I had the surgery on the 18th...do you think I can stop wearing them now? It feels so good when I take them off to shower, I hate to put them back on.
Thanks

how long do you wear surgical stockings?

I guess every dr is different on that , the nurse took mine off at 6 am the next morning after my surgery...
I would ask your dr to make sure! Good luck and speedy recovery!

Just curious really, but what are surgical stockings? I didn't have them I guess or I would probably know, right?
Just wondering if there was something someone forgot to tell me...

LSM, surgical stockings are these GOD AWFUL tight stockings for circulation/to prevent blood clots. Your feet get really stinky, lol.

I actually took mine off when I got home. I was more comfortable, plus I made sure I moved around.

I wore mine for 2 weeks. The doc didn't actyally tell me how long to wear them. So I just made sure I was up and about and walking a lot first.
I had a PE nearly 2 years ago, so I knew how important it was to wear them.
Boy was it good to finally take them off. My skin was so dry and itchy.

Check with your Dr, but mine said I could stop wearing them when I got home from the castle...just make sure you are up, moving and walking.

Spring Branch

I was sent home with them and was just told to continue wearing them whilst I wasn't very active ... it was left quite open-ended really. So, I erred on the side of caution and wore them for about 3 weeks, I think. My poor DH ~ they were so tight I couldn't possibly try to get them on and off by myself (bending over and pulling, etc!) and he had to keep doing them for me!

Always best to check with your doctor, though, if you're unsure how long to wear them.

Take care!

My nurse said to wear them until I could walk around as much as I normally did prior to surgery.
If my legs were swollen to wear them until the swelling went down.

I wore mine for almost a week.

If your legs are swollen then make sure to lay down with your feet up, knees not bent at a sharp angle.
Wiggle your toes, twirl your ankles when laying down or sitting and even sway your legs when sitting. Every movement helps circulation

The nurses took mine off the morning after my surgery. They said as long as I was up walking some, I didn't need them.

Well, I took off the stockings before my shower last night and didn't put them back on....I'm still here and all is well. Unless the legs start to swell, there will be no more stockings. Yahoo!
