Menstrual Cramps?

Hi ladies -

Today marks 3 weeks since my LAVH. Normally I would be ready to start my period in about 6 or 7 days if I hadn't had the hyst. However, I am having what feels like menstrual cramps. Is this possible? I thought this would be over. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Menstrual Cramps?

Did you get the cervix removed? When I was going over the plan for the surgery, the dr said that if I kept the cervix, I could still get mini periods and/or cramps. I didn't keep the cervix..

I went back to see my dr at 7 weeks because I was having abdominal pain (after sex a couple days prior) and was worried that I'd done something wrong. He examined me and all was fine surgery wise, but he did say that it could be ovulation, and that there is always a possibility of cysts with ovaries. Cysts or no, I have felt ovulation before in the past, so maybe it's a bit intensified afterwards when your ovaries go through a bit of shock like described in other threads.

Menstrual Cramps?

I'm sorry you're feeling frustrated by this.

I kept my ovaries also and still experience the same PMS as before my hysterectomy. It is so wonderful not to have those debilitating periods anymore, though.

It's still early days for you and you may find it settles down somewhat. My first few months were certainly the worst. If you find you really can't cope with it, why not have word with your doctor? He may be able to suggest something to help.

Try to hang in there ~ everything with this surgery takes quite a while to settle down.

Menstrual Cramps?

Thank you. I did e-mail the doc - waiting to see if he is going to respond. I knew that I would still experience the PMS symptoms like breast tenderness, mood changes etc. because I kept my ovaries - I just thought I would not have pelvic pain as there is no uterus there to contract anymore. Thanks for the encouragement.
