Catheterization

I had TAH/BSO on a Friday Morning, had cath in till Sunday morning. Basically that was when I told my dr. I felt ok enough to get out of bed and sit on the potty, so he had them take it out. I was very grateful for it the first little while tho b/c I was too unsteady to get to the potty and no way I wanted to use a bedpan!

Good luck!

Catheterization

I had TAH Wednesday morning and had the Foley for 5 days...came home with it still in and doc had me remove it Monday morning (it didn't hurt to remove it). Then I had to self-cath for a few days but it just depends on the individual doctor and their preferences and procedures...and you, of course.

Mine was out in about 24 hours, I think! You won't feel like peeing on your own, the catheter is your friend.

Catheterization

Mine came out 24 hours after surgery. It was the first time I had one. The one thing I didn't know: If it is in and you feel like to you need to pee, ask the nurse to make sure the line is not kinked up. If it is, your bladder will fill because the line isn't draining! (Chalk this up to "things I learned the hard way!").

Catheterization

I went home with the catheter still in. My son called it my "pocketbook" because it went on my arm whenever I walked around the house. I even had a leg bag for when i ventured out and it hid below my pants.

He took it out the same day he removed my staples....11 days after surgery.

He explained that bec I had a radical hyst/ BSO and removal of pelvic tissues, etc, he wanted to protect my bladder....so that is why it was in so long.
I had no trouble peeing after he removed it.

Everyone's situation is different, I would imagine. Ask your doctor what he normally does.

Best Wishes with your surgery.
I 'll be praying for you.
