Chances of cancer after hysterectomy?

This just hit me earlier today. I am so glad to be having my hysterectomy because of my history with cervical cancer! But it hit me, what are the chances of me developing ovarian cancer since they are leaving a least one ovary and I've had cancer in that area before? It may be a stupid question but I hadn't considered it until earlier. Thanks for any help!

I am sorry that you are having to go through this. Have you by any chance consulted a gyn/onc with your history of cervical cancer. They can be more informative on the possibility of cancer after a hysterectomy. Now as far as ovarian goes, yes, you would still be at risk for that if you keep your ovaries.

There is one form of cancer that acts like and is treated like ovarian cancer, primary peritoneal cancer. You can get this cancer even if you had both ovaries removed. It is not common, but it does occur. Also you do have an ovary left, and cancer could start in that one. If you have questions/concerns/symptoms, please contact a gyneclogic oncologist, a specialist in this field.
