Urination Pain

I had a TAH a little under 2 weeks ago and am doing great (aside from some killer gas pain). My question is that I've been experiencing pain/pressure when I try to completely empty my bladder. Is this a normal part of the healing process or is it possible that I have a bladder infection? I'm not having any problem urinating - just having a lot of pain towards the end of it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Urination Pain

I have the same thing, not so much pain as I just feel my bladder in there. My Dr. said it is all part of the healing process. It doesn't happen every time but I can feel a little pressure in there after my bladder is emptied. No pain while going, just after it's empty. I guess it all just takes time settle back in there. Call your Dr. if you are concerned or it worsens.

Urination Pain

I've experienced the same, and find that it coincides when the swelly belly is the worst. I think it has something to do with the swelling putting pressure on the bladder and tubes.

Urination Pain

By accident today I realized that if I sort of recline while I am going it relieves a little of the pressure. I am short so my feet hardly touch the ground while I'm on the commode, but leaning back on the tank seemed to take off some of the pressure. I also make sure I don't let my bladder fill up too much and go before I feel like I have to go. I don't leak anymore when I sneeze or cough so it is a good trade off for me. But I am ready for that discomfort to go away SOON!

Hope it goes away for my sisters soon too!

Urination Pain

Maddie, there are different kind of pains for different things. There is the bladder spasms which is like sharp cramps. If it is a UTI usually the pain is a burning pressure and you feel like you have to go again even though you just went. Is your urine cloudy? That is another sign uf UTI.If it gets worse definetly call your doc. Good luck and let us know. Ophelia

Urination Pain

Maddie .... I have the same thing. Asked the doctor about this and he said that is the normal healing process, especially since I had a catheter (26 hours), and will eventually go away. I also have bowel/rectal pressure, too.

I'm post op about the same amount of time TAH. Does your pain feel like a twinge with a sort of empty feeling? I don't know any other way to describe it. I have noticed that it's worse when my swelly belly is swollen.
good luck.

Urination Pain

Maddie, I describe the UTI as peeing out a porcupine. I had 2 UTI's after my hyst.

If concerned, call the doc. They can test for a UTI quickly in the office.

As i always say to people with UTI's, over the counter AZO is a godsend until you can get on anti-biotics.

Maddie-
I had TAH on MArch 30. The pain that you describe did not go away for me after antibiotics, nor Detrol. I had acupuncture and it cured it! I highly recommend it!
