Saw my gyne today...am having a TAH instead.

well, it's official...we talked at length and in light of my history, I am not having an LAVH anymore but a TAH. That scares me.

The good news is that my belly button won't be split open again...it has three scars one on top of the other.

TAH

Hi there,

I am 8 day post-op TAH/BSO with a horizontal (bikini) incision. I was not a candidate for LAVH either. The surgery went well and the incision is healing very well. I am sure you will do well also. PLEASE, make sure you have your pillow ready for coughing and laughing - it DOES help.

It is also very helpful to walk ASAP and keep walking as often as you can but not over do it. My surgery was at 8:30 am and I was walking by 7:45 p.m. Not real far, mind you, around the nurses station and back to bed, but it really helps to get the gas bubbles moving and get your colon to wake up.

I am sure you will do fine and I will be praying for you on the day of your trip to the castle.

Keep watching this site, as I am certain that I did as well as I did because I was so well prepared and knowledgable about what to expect.

God bless you.

It's always scary when they switch things around on ya!

I had my TAH/BSO with a horizontal incision. It really wasn't bad...it's mostly numb and then it might ache a bit and burn a little. But it was ok.

Hang in there, you're almost there. Just mosey on down to the Hyster Sisters Store and order your Pillow/Tote Bag, and you'll be ready to giggle.

Thanks!

I hear the gas can be pretty bad post-op. My gyne told me to take a laxative two days before to make it easier on me. I remember the gas pain and cramping I felt after my appendix last year...I don't look forward to that this time around.

I'm glad to hear that it's not that bad. I just want to get it over and done with once and for all.

The good news is that we are probably going to be sending my kids to Montreal to stay with my in-laws for a week or so during my surgery and recovery. It will make things a whole lot easier on us and them.

Laurasc,
Just to reassure you, I was scheduled for a LAVH May 25.
Went in to surgery with known fibroids and very heavy periods.
My doctor did say there was always the chance they would have to convert to a TAH.

Well as it turned out, my uterus was too large to do a LAVH, they showed me pictures of it and it looked like a bag full of superballs.

They had already done the belly button insicion as well as the two cuts on the side of my abdoman, and then had to make the bikini inscion also.

Well anyway my point is that I have done remarkably well!!! I was sore for a couple days but not unbearable. I am approaching my 4 week point and I feel great!

I do feel like it is good to get up and move around. Days when I have layed around more I seemed to feel stiff. I know each person has to do what suits them best, this has been good for me.

I was in the Hospital on Friday and came home Sunday, and even went for a 2 block walk with DH and the kids.

I wish you well, I am so glad I have had this done. It's nice to know I am in charge of my life and activities instead of my periods!!!

Laura

You and I have to stop meeting like this . As you know I am from Ontario and am scheduled for a TAH in September. I had really hoped for a TVH but my doctor said no. I really understand how you are feeling.

Anyway good luck and keep me posted
Cath/Katie
