Ovary removal

I need advice! My gynecologist suggests that if my ovaries look ok, I should leave them. My family physician suggests that I have them removed to avoid future problems. I have been diagnosed with severe dysplasia(cinIII) and I am scheduled for my hysterectomy June 22-just two days away! I am 35 years old. My gynecologist argues that I need the hormones from my ovaries while my family dr. says it is better to be safe than sorry and we can give you hormone replacement. I am totally confused! What should I do?? Anyone with suggestions?

One more thing, my gynecologist had an routine EKG done Monday. It was abnormal. I had to go see another dr for that. He said I was ok to have the surgery but that my l should get checked out a couple months post-op. One side of my heart is pumping blood slower than the other. Has anyone else had an abnormal EKG like this? It seems if it isn't one thing, it's something else! The dr reassurred me that it was fine to go ahead with surgery and have another EKG afterwards.

G - Boy, talk about confusing...two drs...two opinions. My gyn. handles all my "female" related issues and I rely on her since she's the "specialist" in that area.

Well, I am almost 4 weeks post-op, had a TVH/BSO and am feeling fine. My ovaries were healthy, but my recommended removing the ovaries simply because HRT can effectively stop all bad effects from the BSO, and because he said that ovarian cancer is so hard to detect, that when it is detected, it's usually too late to do something about it.

I am older than you (43), but I don't regret having my ovaries out at all. In fact, I no longer have sore breasts or cravings yippee . So, I can see how you're confused with conflicting events from both MDs, but trust your gut instincts -- they are usually right.

When is your surgery? I will be praying for you!

I am 34 yrs. old and diagnosed CIN 3 / CIS high up on the endocervix. I am keeping my ovaries specifically because of the hormones!!!! I think I am too young to be on hormone therapy for the rest of my life! If your "specialist" did not indicate that there may be future problems with them, I would keep them!!

I had TAH/BSO, but I'd say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Your ovaries and natural hormones will have benefits for your body for a long long time. If you have no indication of ovary problems and they are healthy, I'd want to keep 'em!

I agree with Dot...your GYN is more specialized in this than a family doctor. I'd go with the expert. You might do a bit of reading here on the Hormone Jungle forum to see how many sisters struggle to get the right balance...it's not always "just take a pill".

Dear G, I go with the other ladies if you can keep your ovaries then I would go for it. I wanted to keep mine but they were very unhealthy and had to be removed. I just turned 44 so I am not liking these hot flashes to much But a few more months and I will have some relief with hormone therapy. If you are that confused and feel uncomfortable with the advise can you see another doctor? It is your body and a major decision. Best wishes Diane

G- If it wasn't for family history of ovarian cancer I would keep my healthy ovaries and I'm almost 43. After three dr opinions---It is a no-brainer for me at this point-- I plan to educate myself as much as I can on HRT. Ovarian cancer is a sneaky one.
