Anyone have a ledge over their abdominal incision?

My incision is healing well, but I have a ledge over my incision. It puffs out. When I walk sometimes, I can feel it jiggle and when I put on my panties, I can see it thru the fabric. I didn't have this before surgery. Do you think this will go away?

My stomach is healing well as far as the swelling goes except this swelling over the incision area.

I would like to know that too. I have the same kind of skin flap that is swollen hanging over the insicion. It is not pretty. I have lost about 8 pounds and I am not overweight. The area is also kind of tender and sore a lot of times.

I have a ridge too and I'm further down the recovery road too. I think mine gets worse when I overdo things. It is'nt as bad as it was a few weeks ago so I'm confident that it will improve. I'm not over weight either.

I work out a lot so not overweight either, but I'd really be kind of let down with my doctor if this ledge stays and the surgeon didn't warn me and let me know my options if I should get a plastic surgeon while I'm under already to fix it. Heck it would have been worth the money to not have to live with the ledge the rest of my life. It's not that pretty to say the least.

I guess I was just hoping someone would say it's just part of the healing process and eventually, like the swelly belly, will go away. I don't mean to sound vain because I hope I'm not..just concerned.

Thanks Lisa. That doesn't sound good then. I imagine if it were to go away the nurse would have added that to reassure you.

Anyone have a ledge over their abdominal incision?

I dont think mine is as bad as you seem to be experiencing. Mine gets worse towards the end of the day. I think it is less noticable now than when I was newly post op. I had adhesions and my bowel was sticking to my uterus and would not ' pull down'. My consultant had no option but to perform TAH. I was scheduled for TVH. It is not as bad now as it was a couple of weeks ago so I'm confident the swelling will go down but yes I have a definite ridge there. Best wishes.

Thanks Bagpuss for chiming in and I'm glad you are healing well. I only wish I could be as confident. lol

It would be great if maybe someone 1 year out would comment on their ledge.

Anyone have a ledge over their abdominal incision?

I too have a ledge or "bulge" that runs along the complete top edge of my TAH incision. It is very unnatractive and it is a shock becasue it's a body "defect" I had never seen or heard about before! My doctor assured me it would flatten out, but that it could take a year. I put on my swim suit and realized that I will have to wear "swim shorts" over it to cover my bulge. I'm not overweight or vain...the bulge is just a dissapointment becasue it's one of the many things my doctor didn't think to prepare me for or warn me about. I'm not able to zip up my pants because of it and I can't afford to buy bigger size clothes. Heavy sigh...I remind myself to be thankful that my pathology was benign. Lets have hope that our "overhangs" flatten out by this time next year!

Anyone have a ledge over their abdominal incision?

Well, this is probably not a post you will want to read, but my truth is I have had this type of "ledge" since I had my first C-Section, which was 15yrs ago.

Sure I was smaller then, I was 27yrs old. I now could honestly lose 5-7 pounds, but it's because I'm short at only 5'2, I'm 123 pounds.

My hysterectomy was TAH, so the incision was made over my previous one.

There was a time after having my kids that I was very physically active, only a size 3, but still had this shelf.

So if any has a way to get rid of this, except to have surgery, I'd love to know the secret!
