"packing" after a TVH? Is that common?

I had a TVH with a rectocele repair on thursday. They put "packing" in me and took it out the next morning. The doc's said it's basically gauze with estrogen cream put in the vagina to help the bleeding. They related it to when you get a cut and put pressure on it to form a blood clot. Is this typically? I wasn't expecting that, but they said it will help with my bleeding.

Hi eliza,
I had the packing to and didn't know I even had it til I fully woke up, boy was I glad to get that out.....I didn't think it would ever end. I don't know how they got all of that in there...lol. I really only had light spotting on and off for the first few weeks, nothing major. Hope this helps you. Take care.

I had it, too but my "room mate" did not. It must depend on the individual & doc.

I did not have it but every single nurse that started a new shift asked me and checked me for packing so I'm assuming it's a very common thing.

I had a laparoscopic hyst (cervix and ovaries too) and had a vaginal pack. I thought it was like a magician's trick because the nurse just kept pulling and pulling and pulling it out. I expected a rabbit to be tied to the end!!

I had an abdominal hyst and they packed me as well.
I didnt even know it was there until the doctor came to take it out the next day and it seemed to go on forever.

Yes, I had packing too. It hurt to turn on my side with it in, so I was very pleased to have it removed the next day.
