Im new & Scared have cervical cancer

Hello there!

I'm so very sorry you're having to deal with all of this, but you've found a great site for info and support.

First, I can't stress enough the importance of your seeing a gyno/oncologist, not just your regular gyno. They are the experts for treating female cancers, and you want to get your treatment off to the right start. It sounds like your cancer has been caught very early, so it's most likely that surgery will be your only treatment (also why it's important for the gyno/onco to do the surgery).

There are quite a few of us cervical cancer gals here, and I think most of us were treated with surgery. It is scary, but it is also very treatable at early stages. You can beat this!!

Hugs to you!

Im new & Scared have cervical cancer

I was diagnosed with HPV last June. In February of this year, after a LEEP procedure, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer Stage 1b2. I had a Radical Hysterectomy/BSO on March 30th.
They took 18 lymph nodes and all were clean....no tumors/cancer. I do not need further treatment and I just went back to work this week. My recovery was uneventful. I am doing well on Premarin.

Like monami said, it is very treatable at the early stage. Please be sure to see a GYn/ONC, though. They are the experts in female cancer.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

Im new & Scared have cervical cancer

I also have high risk HPV and was diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 1a2. I am having a hysterectomy and lymphadenectomy. My Gyn/Onc is pretty positive that the suregry will be the only treatment I need. As the other ladies here have said, it sounds like they caught it early. I will be sending my positive thoughts your way!!!

Im new & Scared have cervical cancer

i too was diagnosed with carcinoma in situ. i had the cone biopsy in late February but there was still the cells in what they call the margin. since i still had some of the pre cancer cells a total hysterectomy was recommended. i did some reading up on it (webmd.com) and this is the best option. it is scary, but i was more scared and emotional at the thought of cancer than losing my uterus. i just had my tvh on the 16th and it went well; there were no complications with surgery.

this is a great site to look through and gather great information and support. good luck!!

Im new & Scared have cervical cancer

Mayo12,
Know this is not the site anyone wants to belong to but as you see already you should find lots of help and support here. Info can be power and as you learn more you will see that at an early stage, as you have, this cancer is very treatable and cureable. As others already have mentionded, since you have a cancer dx, pls at least consult with a gyn/onc and if at all feasible consider having one of these specialist do your surgery. Also, you may want to talk with your doc about trying to give up smoking at least until after your surgery.
Pls don't hesistate to come here to vent, ask questions or perhaps if a hug might help; someone seems to be around almost 24/7.
