Recommended Hyster Reading Anyone
I was wondering if anyone has been reading books on hysterectomy and or surgical menopause. Can you recommend good ones or let me know which ones not to waste my time on. It's getting close and I am still undecided about my ovaries. I think I have gone as far as I can on the internet reading.

Hi Eskie!
Over four years ago, at the age of 50, I faced the decision on whether to keep or ditch my ovaries. One useful website I recall is "Survivor's Guide to Surgical Menopause." A book I found helpful (which is available in the Hystersisters Store) is "The Estrogen Answer Book" by Ruth Jacobowitz...although the book primarily covers HRT options for natural menopause versus surgical menopause, so you would need to take that into account.
I hope that, whatever surgical decisions you make, you have a successful surgery and uneventful recovery!
Many s and Best Wishes,

Hi Eskie.
I found a great book that is my new "bible" and is laid out much like the "What to Expect" series. It is called, "Is it hot in here? Or is it Me? The Complete Guide to Menopause" by Pat Wingert and Barbara Kantrowitz. It covers all the issues that we face whether or not we have a hyst. plus it does have a decent chapter on different types of hysterectomies and recovery. It is also laid out in a Q & A format with tables and sidebars. I spent a good deal of my time at the hospital yest. reading from it.
This book covers everything from HRT, Bone Density, Sex, Mood, Health and Diet, etc. as our bodies age. I really am pleased with the purchase and have recommended it to several friends already.
Good luck with your decision. FYI I did have the LAVH/BSO and so far not a symptom of menopause -- I feel pretty good overall even with the post-op discomfort.

Pretty good -- had the LAVH/BSO and it's not so bad. Plugging along.
