I am almost 2 weeks post-op and am dying to plant some flowers. Is this a good idea if I have times of not being too tired and sore? The thought of hundreds of internal stitches has me scared to death that I am going to rupture some. I have already been doing too much at times because I don't sit still well.

Can you just be the designer behind it? Let someone else do the muscle work or plant in flower pots as long as someone else does the lifting and filling of pots?

Carrot, you sound like me. I have a yard full of flowers and nice landscape. Thank goodness my mom was here for a couple weeks when I got out of the hospital. She did my mowing and weeding and planting but she's an expert at it so I felt ok. I just walked around with a water hose and watered. Now at 5 weeks today, I'm so itching to mow. I have a self-propelled and thinking of getting my neighbor to start the mower and I just self propel it around the yard. I doubt i do it, but I'm itching. I so can't wait to yank weeds and do some transplanting of some of my things. I guess we just need to hang in there as hard as it is. It's killing me to have all this time off to do some quality gardening and I'm not allowed. lol

Carrot, I am almost 7 weeks from a TAH and worked in the yard all day on Sunday and I am still paying for it. I felt great so figured oh that bag of dirt is almost empty, I can carry that. Oh the ground isn't that hard, I can dig in there. I can drag the hose to water. Wrong! I do have a perfect looking yard and I am paying for it now. At least it is getting me out of vacuuming but I should not have done as much as I did. I don't know what you have to do out there but you might just try planting a few plants maybe in planters or pots so you don't have to get up and down. Maybe that will work as your "fix" for now. Do you have a friend that gardens like you do that could come do the work while you give directions? I had a friend move some hostas around for me and she did it better than I could have. Just don't push yourself, it will all still be there when you can get to it. I hated hearing someone tell me that, but it is true.

I am 6.5 weeks post op. and just starting to garden and do yardwork again. I am being very careful and trying not to overdo it. Each time one of my teens arrives home I have a list of little chores. Mostly putting the flower pots and soil up on the picnic table where I can plant them and then returning them once they are done. Also I use a small bucket to weed and dump it into a wheelbarrow and then have the kids wheel it to the back of the property to dump. I did the mowing but the kids did the weedeating. I got clearance from my Dr. to resume normal activities at 6 weeks. I am doing a little more each day, and backing off if I have much discomfort. Good luck to you.

My back yard garden has lots of perennials that have done well so it is in good shape, but I cringe when I go out front. I have some ground cover that my DH planted last week under a bay window. I want to get some annuals--my daughter (age 7) and son (age 9) can put them in the ground for me. They also like to earn the extra allowance for weeding! I will have my DH set me up with a "flower pot station" so I can sit and still get my hands dirty (the fun part!). Thanks for sharing--you helped me develop a plan!!

I can relate to wanting to get in the yard and do some work but at only 1 week post op, no freaking way. My pond is in serious need of attention though, as in it needs to be completely drained and scrubbed, everything repotted, and then refilled. Your flower pot station is the perfect idea for you and me both. I'm having a friend come over this weekend and do the hard stuff (scrubbing, lifting plants out of the water) and then I'm going to sit in my chair and do the pruning, re-potting and fertilizing. Then he can sink them back in the water. Your plan is a WINNER!

Well no wonder you want to get out, it is so pretty outside right now! I have lived in KY for 11years and I would not want to live anywhere else, we love it here. We live out near horse farms and I love seeing those babies with their mama's every morning. Maybe just go shopping for your plants and do a little each day. Just don't over do like I did. I love my yard now and it feels great to sit and look at the fruits my labor, but it feels like I was in labor! LOL And for the weeds, I have walked around with a small bottle of round up a few days and killing the weeks that way, makes me feel like I have power! LOL I don't have to bend over and hopefully it is killing them in that spot for good.

Take care neighbor!

Sandra
