Hi Anna,

I kept my cervix and would'nt you know, my very first pap smear came back with atypical cells. My cervix was the only thing left in!

I had a repeat 3 months later and it was normal.

Sweet Pea- I had my cervix left in, also. I asked my primary dr about this and she said I could still get vaginal cancer even if the cervix had been removed. I've never had an abnormal pap, so I am anxious myself to see what happend with my first after surgery, too.

Keep us posted, Anna. Wishing you all the best, Robbi

I should have also mentioned that it is not uncommon to have an abnormal pap following a hysterectomy. Changes can occur due to a mild infection as a result of surgery, healing process, hormonal changes, ect. And yes, your Dr. is right about vaginal cancer. This is why women who have had a hysterectomy still need to have regular pap smears.

Dont' get too upset about it like I did-it was needless worry.
