Yikes!

HELLO! I'll get right into it......Sooooo......scared is the only word I can think of to reflect what I'm feeling. Two weeks from today is my scheduled surgery, when I'll be scooped like a pumpkin in the hopes of getting my life back to 'normal'. My biggest worries are making it through the surgery (although if I really let myself think about it, I know I have THE best doctor performing the surgery and thus, shouldn't be scared in the least), the post-op recovery period, the possibility of hormone replacement and, MOST OF ALL, weight gain. Unbelievable, but true. As my mom would say, 'at least you're healthy'. So, having said that, I know she's right, but I can't help but worry about these things. Anyone have anything to say that will help alleviate my concerns???? Thanx in advance - and remember, I AM SCARED TO DEATH. End of story. I feel like cancelling, if the truth be known!

I can relate!

Mornin Egads - I CAN RELATE!!! My surgery is coming sooon (June 7th). I'm scared too. Woke up with heart palpitations this a.m. I'm also starting to get insomnia. Geez - does this anxiety HAVE to be with me day AND night???
All I can say is that this whole process for me (decision to D-Day) has been just that - a process. It has gone in stages. From REALLY nervous about even making it (look at my original post dated 5/27 "Am I the only one that's paranoid") to concerned about the anaesthesia to just plain being a tearful emotional wreck over the stupidest things (and some not so stupid!) I felt the more I read the more scared I became. But then i started responding to threads, reading some of the humor that people have shared here, and my spirits and concerns have lightened. The few women i know here at home that have had a hyst say it's a piece of cake! All the venting and expressing you do here REALLY helps, I promise. You will calm your fears as you progress through the different issues that concern you. It's almost like you can't move on to the next one until you fully feel good about the current one! YOU CAN DO IT.
Gotta go wake the kids for school, but keep in touch, OK? Read some of the threads on my list.. u can find them under my name thats listed alphabetically under "members".
HAVE A GREAT DAY !!! We are ALL here for you! xxoo

Yikes!

Egads, you're scheduled for one day after me. I think we June princesses are going to have to band together and help each other through this! Your feelings are very much like mine. But as lisa said, I've been through a process too. Terrified, resigned, excited, calm, you name it. The flutters are starting for me too now. Waking up early in a panic, checking this site about 10 MILLION times a day, etc.

We WILL get through this.....

I heard a quote from my pastor the other day as she was trying to get volunteers for vacation bible school. Seems they can't find anyone for the 3-4 year old class. She said, "I know you might be afraid, but do it afraid!" And that has sort of become my mantra. I'm tired of 25 years of problems, on again/off again pain that has become more on than off........some I"m going to do it afraid.

Take care ladies,
Gigimay

Thanks!

Thanks for your responses!!! I have been perusing the pre- and post-op forums and must ask this - too much information????? I know that everyone heals differently and goes through different emotional experiences, but now I'm TWICE as scared!!! I'm thinking it's better not to read anything, yet somehow my human nature wants the scoop (pardon the pun!) on everything! At any rate, my procedure will be a full hysterectomy, including cervix, with the possibility of saving the one ovary I have left. Procedure will be done through a laparoscopy, with the possibility of a 3 inch incision if necessary. <oops! name of physician removed per site guidelines!> THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

All three of you ladies in waiting MUST REMEMBER THIS : For every woman that post a problem in post op; there is a woman who is basically having an easy recovery but doesn't post about it for making the woman with problems feel even worse.
The feeling you are having ; being scared are totally normal! This is a major surgery after all no matter what type you are having and for what ever reason.
Is there a chance of dying? Yes but then you take the same chance getting into a car. Does that stop you from driving?
Most women find that the fear of post op pain is worse then what the reality is.
And finally no matter what, we are here for you.

"The hero is not the man who feels no fear--it's the man who does what needs doing even while (soiling) himself from fear!"

--Unknown.

"You put your head down and charge straight through it. The pain isn't nearly as bad as you think."

Yikes!

This thread was definitely pleasing to read! I never thought anyone else checked this site as much as I do... I was on a pass (free time off from Army duty) from Friday through Monday... so today was my first day back on duty.... I couldn't wait to come home for lunch today... and it wasn't to eat... I just wanted to see what was going on with my fellow sisters

Last night I was determined to call my doctor today and cancel my surgery... then I chatted a bit with everyone last night... slept... got up bright and early and read some postings during lunch and my anxieties were mostly a memory. Don't get me wrong... I'm still nervous as ever... worried... etc, but the ability to talk to fellow sisters about our worries and still have a sense of humor is what is saving me!

I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart. I'm sure many before me and many after me may feel the same... I couldn't do this without you guys! s s s

It is completely normal to have fears and questions prior to a major surgery! You are not alone!

It is very important to be sure this is the right decision for you. We are each unique and as mentioned, we all have a different experience. Thankfully, many women do well after their hyst. But there are those of us who did not do well so it is important to know the risks and weigh the pros and cons.

As you are finding, there are many women on the site willing to step up and hold your hand through the process! You will find support here 24/7! Many best wishes to you!
