My Mouth Hurts - HELP!
I'm 3 weeks post-op and my gums are all swollen and tender. I went to my dentist today and he said he sees what I'm talking about but sees no reason for it. He checked thoroughly and we discussed it at length. He even x-rayed the area where it started just to make sure nothing was abscessed. He suggested that maybe it has something to do with hormones or after effects of surgery. I've got a call into my GYN but won't get a reply until tomorrow. Meanwhile - I was wondering if anyone else out there has encountered this problem and has any suggestions how to make my mouth quit hurting.
Thanks Y'all!

My Mouth Hurts - HELP!
I seem to recall reading that red swollen gums can be related to hormones. That's one of the reasons many dentists recommend booking any dental work on a non-period week.

gums
Sorry I didn't have this problem, although I did when I was pregnant so maybe it is harmone related.
Try rinsing your mouth with glyoxide.

My Mouth Hurts - HELP!
I'm with you!! Something with surgery or lack of hormones. I started with teeth pain-my gums shrunk and exposed a sensitive part of the tooth-that happened at 2 weeks. I got some rinse for that. It did go away but then at 8 weeks I developped thrush (yeast infection of the mouth). I couldn't get to the dentist-I was out of town. It's finally going away on it's own. I read that hormones can cause dry mouth and that can cause yeast infections. Sorry can't offer any help.

My Mouth Hurts - HELP!
I spoke with my GYN today and he insists that my gum problems are something totally separate and not a result of hormone problems since I still have my ovaries. Time will tell.

Nanna, I disagree with your gyn and "he" should know better. The ovaries can go into shock after the surgery and not put out enough hormones. Also, every time of my cycle, my gums get more sore as well. The soreness goes away once my cycle peeters out. Tell your Dr. your Dentist said it's nothing on his end. Ask the Dr. to then do a hormone blood test just to make sure.
Meanwhile, Sensodyne toothpaste is great for easing sore gums. There are generic brands and some common brands advertise a "sensative" toothpaste, but the Sensodyne brand does work MUCH better. My gums have hurt so much at times, I've rubbed the toothpaste on them, let it sit a bit, then rinse thoroughly. You might also try using numbsit or oragel (like for babies) for a little while just to get some relief.
Good luck and push the GYN. LJC

My Mouth Hurts - HELP!
Dr. did say that he'd do a hormone check when I come in for my post-op appt in 3 weeks. I was little miffed that he blew me off which is unusual because he's never done that before, so if it's not better by next week, I'll get in touch with my dentist again and go from there. Thanks for the helpful advice. I already use sensodyne tooth paste but will get some orajel. I'm rinsing a couple of times a day with warm salty water and taking the antibiotics that dentist prescribed (just in case there is something he didn't see). I still have lots of pain meds @ different strengths so if it gets bad enough I'll hit them.

My Mouth Hurts - HELP!
Hi~
been there, and ouch!!! hormones yep. If I remember Anatomy and physiology and biology right.........Just as estrogen "fluffs' up the endometrium and vaginal tissue, it fluffs up other mucus membranes as well. An example is a pretty well known phenomena of pregnant women having constant stuffy/runny noses as estrogen levels soar.
As my daughters are reaching puberty they complain of sore gums at times. Mine exploded about 4 weeks out from surgery. The whole roof of my mouth was so sore I had trouble eating. My gums have always been sensitive to my cycle. Goofy.
I really hope you feel better soon. Mine lasted about 2 weeks. Nothing made it feel better, wish I would have tried the tooth paste.

My Mouth Hurts - HELP!
Wow! I'm a little more hopeful now that it won't last too long. I'd never had any problems before and didn't know that sore gums could be PMS based. Nothing has made my mouth feel better either. Eating yogurt is cool and soothing but only so much of that I can eat.
Thanks for the info.
