Have your taste buds changed post-op?

I've been trying to tell myself I'm nuts (entirely possible), but my taste buds are 'off'. Really off. I can't taste things.

I'm burning everyone's tongues with my cooking...and it still tastes bland and tasteless to me.

I would guess its a reaction to the anesthesia. I'm at almost 7 weeks, but I have had more difficulty with anesthesia reactions than anything else from the surgery.

Anyone else's taste buds misbehaving? Did it get better for anyone?

You're not nuts. I'm 8 weeks out in 2 days, and I'm just getting my taste buds back. Everything tasted "off" ever since surgery. The first few weeks were the worst. It was to the point that food tasted disgusting and I just couldn't eat it. It's gotten much better. At least I can eat, but every now and again something will taste off. White bread still taste's bad too me even though it's fresh. Ice cream tastes off too, but I still eat it. I'm sure it'll get better for you in time.

brier,

I lost taste for a while after surgery too. I drink coffee and have since I was a teenager. After surgery I couldn't stand the smell or the taste of it.

I am happy to say everything came back and is normal.

Best of luck to you

I haven't noticed that I have lost my sense of taste, but my sense of smell is wayyyy off whack!! I can smell everything at like super sonic smell!! LOL
My DH has been laughing at me because I have been hunting down a smell in my fridge for the last week in a half and have cleaned it like 3 times!!! But I still smell it!! UGH!!
Take care ladies!!

Have your taste buds changed post-op?

I'm over three months out and my taste buds are still off and feel slightly numb. Nothing tastes good and my tongue feels weird. My mouth is also dryer. My doctor thinks this is all in my head!

LOL. Me too.

My treat to myself post-op was an ice cream brownie sundae (I know...I really indulged). I couldn't taste it, but that wasn't the point!

Thanks everyone for your replies.

My taste is off as well, but the opposite. Everything is too spicy for me, especially vinegar-based things like mustard. This totally *****- I'm a spicy food type of gal!

OMG, I thought it was just me! All my favorite stuff tastes bland to me now but I keep eating it hoping I'll get SOME kind of taste. Please tell me it gets better. If I can't taste I'll keep eating, KWIM? I can't afford to gain more weight. :-(
