TAH with Bladder repair.

My first day home went good. The second day home the pain was unbearable. None of the pain medicane would work. The Doctor wants me to wean off the pain meds. It has only been 4 days. I have an incision from hip to hip. I had a c-section in 1980 and when the doctor put me back together, he forgot to put a barrier between my utreus and bladder. So when I had my TAH they had to cut my utrues off of my bladder and the ended up cutting into my bladder. My stomak is so swollen. and so are my legs and ankles. I am starting to run a fever. Some of my stomack is numb. I need some one to talk to. Help

TAH with Bladder repair.

Hi Deannie....I too am from Okla. orginally. Listen go to the doc. go to the ER. Unfortuanetly some docs seem to think we all are the same, and somewhere along the line he had that ONE patient who did cartwheels down the hospital halls (without pulling her IV out) and refused pain meds. And some think we are hooked if we stay on them a couple of weeks. What they do not know or realize is that if someone is in pain, then the pain meds only help to relieve the pain so they can function at a more comfortable level. Are you going to the bathroom ok?? You probably are having alot of swelling due to all the manipulation of your bladder during surgery. It will take a while for that to calm down. Be sure to drink alot of water. I know it seems you wont ever be feeling good again, but you will. But don't suffer in pain. Healing is proven to take longer if you hurt too much. Of course you are going to have some pains and twinges, and some days you will feel like you just can't stand another second of it...but it will get better, I promise. But the fever is a key factor here for you to go to the doc, or ER. A blood test should be done, only my opinion, but it can tell the doc if you have an elevated white count. And can start you on antibiotics. Hoe you feel better. Rest often and keep your feet elevated if they are swelling. Even put them up on pillows in bed,,it will help. Hang in there gal, your an Okie!!! by golly!!! Sending angels to watch over you...Brenda

Oh, Deanie,

Call your doctor for a different pain medicine. I personally think it's too soon to be off pain meds!! I took 2 Darvocet every 4 hours for about 10 days, then 1 every 4 hours for the next few days. You need relief from the pain, your body can't heal if you're tied up in pain!

After you call your doctor, lay down with your feet up! Drink lots of fluids to help lower your temp.

bladder repair

I had the a tah on June 4th, my bladder had grown into the scar tissue of a ceasarian scar and the surgeon sliced into the bladder about 3 inches, so they repaired that and I know what you are going through. Have you tried tylenol with codine ( #3), you will know when you should take less. Take them every 4 hours, next day try 5 hours apart! I hope you had your urine checked for a bladder infection. I was in hospital 5 days with a catheter in so, I am still very tender after 3 weeks, but each day gets easier.

TAH with Bladder repair.

I just had the same deal 3 weeks ago. The bladder thing is the WORST!! I almost think the TAH would have been a walk in the park had I not had the bladder problem. I brought my catheter home (we were very close for 10 days) and had stints in for another 5 days. It still hurts to pee, I still feel crampy after I go, when I have to go, I have to GO. I'm not convinced that I don't have an infection (I have to be dead to have a fever) and so I have an appointment tomorrow.

I don't know if I can help but I can most CERTAINLY sympathize. You can email me if you like....we can whine together.
