When can you start walking and how far??

Hi ladies,
I'm new to the site, and absolutely love it... I'm sure no one else has said that before, I'm so orginal!
My questions: I had my surgery 18 days ago, I'm feeling really good.. just a little tired, and minor pain. (FREEZING COLD FLASHES AND BURNING HOT FLASHES) but other then that.. I'm good. When can I sart "really" walking, as in exirsicing? and how far can I go the first few times? (one mile is that too much)? I lost 18lbs before I had the surgery, via weight watchers (not going to the program, but following it with a friend) and a week after surgery I was down another 20lbs so that makes 38lbs lost. I thought it was a perfect time to just keep going. I have about 50lbs or so more to go and then I'm perfect. HA HA HA.
Thanks for the help!!
Joni

When can you start walking and how far??

Hi Joni,

It wasn't until I was cleared to resume normal activity before I could start walking for exercise. Prior to that, my dr just wanted me walking at a normal pace adding a few minutes each day. I was cleared at 4 wks.

Congrats on losing all that weight. For now, you might just try be real careful not to eat to much while you're activity is limited. Maybe you can check with your dr about when you can get back to fitness walking.

Good luck!

At this point you can consider any walking exercise. Please keep the intensity level down. Make the distances short and GRADUALLY increase the distance and intensity. Listen to your body. It will tell you what to do! Never push yourself for the first 6-8 weeks. Make sure you stay away from hills as they are difficult for the abdominal. Make sure you 2 quarts of purified water each day!
