sling surgery--- TVTO

I had my surgery for my cystocele and rectocele last October and I have continued to have bladder leakage, so I went through another round of urodynamics testing. They said I have stress incontinence and an overactive bladder. They said I have alot of bladder spasms. I could have told them that.

Anyway the doctor wants to put in the TVTO sling and that maybe I could take some medicine for the overactive bladder, like vesicare.

I would like to know it anyone has had that TVTO sling put in and how was your recovery time amd if you know of any treatments for an overactive bladder.

also during the urodynamics testing when they put that tube in my vagina they hit something that really hurt and i bleed for 4 days after including lots of clots. Does anyone know what might have caused the bleding?

Did you ask your DR what caused the bleeding from your urodynamics test? Ouch! I can't imagine what they did that caused that. I had no problems like that when mine was done a little over 2 years ago. It seems to me, something not-so-gentle must have caused that. It sounds very painful and I'm sorry you had to go through that.

The TVT-O or transobturator tape (TOT) is the type of urethral sling I had put in with my original surgery in 6/05. Mine is still working. I do not have stress incontinence. Since I had it in conjunction with my HYST, I don't know what the recovery is for that alone. I do have an acquaintance who had a TVT done by itself and she was told that she needed to be off work for 2 weeks and then could go back. She was not to lift anything heavier than 8-15 pounds total for 12 weeks after having the surgery and then she was "good to go." The website recommends that women who have a TVT have lifetime lifting restrictions of no more than about 25 pounds after the initial recovery period. [ is another good place to go to read about different surgeries and therapies that are being done by DR's.]

Overactive bladder is what is urge incontinence is often called. Treatments for it usually are medications. You can google for the main ones used (detrol, vesicare, etc.). I did read somewhere that sometimes when a sling is put in for stress incontinence, that urge incontinence is occasionally taken but I can't remember where I read that--sorry (maybe one of the med. society reports or something?) I actually got urge incontinence after my TOT and HYST for about 6 months but it did go away--thank goodness.

Hope you find the help you need soon.
