7 week post op visit (internal exam)

I had to start this thread because the ones for the 6 week post op for my surgery date have ended and I wanted to be able to share my experience of the internal exam (one week too late )but it was the first available appt. my DR had.

I saw my DR today for my official 6 week internal. I went to his office with #1 information/brochure about Hystersisters.com because I wanted him to share this with all of his patients that may be facing a hysterectomy. He was totally excited about hystersisters and I had also recommended him under"Suggest A Doctor" and had brought a print out of that for him to see. The Hystersister information is so important to me. I want other ladies to know that there is a place where they can go and get answers, relieve anxiety, feel comforted and share their experience with and most of all, get needed support. There are so many DRs that could benefit from knowing about Hystersisters, so that they can tell their patients.

O.K., so after sharing that material with him, my DR proceeds to ask: how have I been doing, any pain, discomfort. I tell him, yes, some discomfort and pressure when sitting at times. He assures me that for me, this is normal and will subside. He explains that he needs to check my sutures internally, and asks if my hubby and I have had an opportunity to resume sexual activity, and while blushing like a teenager, I said, yes, once, and he asks if there was any discomfort and I said not really, (it had been 2 1/2 months) and I said probably the only discomfort came from the absence of it, not the surgery. We both giggled and he proceeded on with the exam. He used a speculum and pressed on my vaginal cuff (which did cause some pain, on a scale of 1-5, I would rate a 3. I totally did not expect any pain, but it was only brief, mind you. Now, I have had some pain since this (for about 4 hours now, but it is not bad, about a 1 1/2 and I am sure it will ease off). He said my sutures had all dissolved and I was doing great. He said he would see me back in a year!

I am totally thrilled! I feel as if I closed a major chapter in my life of horror stories and I can now look positively toward the future, no worries. God has been so good!!

I felt I had to write this and share with my wonderful sisters my experience!

Remember to and please let your DRs know about Hystersisters so that they can tell their patients about this great place!

God Bless You Each!! Poohtie

Hey Poohtie! Great news - thanks for sharing! I am a day behind you and also went for my 6 week just yesterday - doc was proud that DH & I actually waited until the internal exam was completed before have "relations"!! Got the green light, the go forth and live life, the will see you in September and came home to eagerly await DH to get home so we could commence our sex life. It had been MONTHS - not sure how many but too many! I must say I slept like a baby!!

I raved to my doc and the office manager and staff about hystersisters and how much I relied on all my sisters for support. They had never heard of such a site and will start sharing with women who come through their doors.

Peace and love.

7 week post op visit (internal exam)

Thanks so much for sharing about the post op internal exam, I have been wondering about this as mine is in two weeks. I'm very nervous about as many sisters here have mentioned how painful it is.

Would you recommend taking a pain pill before I go?

Thanks again sweetie, hystersisters has been my salvation!!!!!!!

7 week post op visit (internal exam)

Hi Vue...I was nervous too and was almost wanting to get an Rx of valium! BUT...I was able to calm down (I LOVE the staff at my doc's office) - I didn't have any pain - it was uncomfortable - poking, pressure - my belly still swells in the late p.m. (when my appointment was) so that might have a lot to with the comfort level! I would suggest a morning appointment - also you won't have all day to think about it!

Hang in there - glad to share and hope it helps others!

I am sorry, didn't mean to scare you as far as pain goes. Since we are all different and had surgeries for different reasons, you may/may not experience pain. I hope that you don't. You may want to contact your DR and ask about it prior to the appt. to see what he/she thinks. Best wishes and know we are here when you need us! Poohtie.

Poohtie!
Just thought I'd "strut" on by and say that I'm glad that your internal went well! It's almost hard to believe that 7 weeks ago we were worried about bowel movements and wondering if we would EVER get better!

By the way, I find that I'm much more calm about life in general. After living through that surgery, nothing really upsets me anymore ... at least not for very long!

God Bless You and I hope your life remains wonderful!

Go Katzz3! Congratulations to you, too! I am so proud of all of us that have gotten this far in recovery and getting back to our lives as normal. I can't hardly believe it! It almost seems as if a blur, the day of surgery and I never thought I would feel so good so quickly. It seems as if most of us are doing wonderful and I am so relieved for us all! God Bless you, too and thanks for your post!

Vuebird~ my doc told me to take a pain pill prior to coming and to have DH come with since I'd be on pain meds...however, as we discussed before...I had a little more stuff done "down under" ! I don't know if that is why he told me to take a pill or not tho' for sure...I hate PAIN.

Hugs!
