Day surgery or hospital stay?

is it normal to have a hysterectomy as day surgery and your out the same day or does it require hosptial stay and if so for how long?

or is it an individual hospital/dr thing?

Day surgery or hospital stay?

I think it's up to your Dr. I talked to mine, and he said if we did it early in the morning I could go home that evening, however, he preferred to do afternoon surgeries so his patients were in at least overnight. Also, it depends on the type of hysterectomy and if you have any complications. I had a couple of minor complications and ended up staying for an extra night.

It all depends on the type of surgery and how you are doing after. It's an individual thing. For example, mine is a TAH and my doctor told me 2-3 days in the hospital. Others are out the next day some others stay 3-5 days. It all depends so there isn't any real answer to that.

Day surgery or hospital stay?

I had TAH/BSO on a Thursday morning and went home Sunday afternoon. I felt like I was ready to go home on Saturday and one of the nurses seemed to think he would send me home and I was a little disappointed when he said I'd be staying another night but really it was all for the best. Remember, we only get this one chance at recovering so don't overdo!

I think it depends on the type of procedure you have done. I had a TVH and was in overnight - altho my insurance initially approved it for OUTpatient. We both called to protest and it was changed. When I was in the hospital they told my dr "start the clock for 18 hours from the time I got out of surgery." He said he wasn't going to release me that soon as he wanted to make sure I was ok, so I stayed an additional 10 hours.

Some lap hyst seem to be on outpatient, some stay 1 night and others 2 nights - so talk with your doctor and/or your insurance.

Blessings with your surgery,

Debbie

Day surgery or hospital stay?

I had my LAVH/BSO at a day surgery center, which happens to be next to the hospital. I spent one night. The nice thing is that ALL of the rooms (there are only 8..medium sized town) are private, so I could watch TV at 3 a.m. when I couldn't sleep, and to sleep at 3 p.m. with complete silence. The night I stayed there was only one other surgery patient, with 2 nurses. My Dr. said my insurance approved up to 2 nights, but I wanted to come home, and she agreed I was doing good enough to do that.
