Update on doctors appointment....

Hi Ladies, I hope this finds all of you well!!!
I saw my doctor today to discuss my options, he wants me to go see a pain managment doctor and see if there is anything he can do for me. He said this doctor specializes in giving epideral type injections that can help control the pain, well needless to say when he said epideral I freaked!! I had one of those done a couple of years ago and it went wrong, I had to go back in and have a blood patch done 3 different times, my spinal fluid was leaking out and causing severe pain, I was stuck in the back a total of 4 times and had to spend 7 days flat on my stomach doing nothing and I swore that no one would ever put a needle in my back again, when I explained my extreme fear of this he said that maybe this doctor will know of something else that he can use and if not then I am to call him and we are going to schedule a lap to look around, he said if he finds adhesions he will clean them up, he also wants to extend my incision to the left about 1 1/2 inches and scrape around the muscle in the area that hurts, he is still convinced that I also have a trapped nerve in there.
So that's where I am at ladies, not feeling like I made much advancment but who knows, maybe this will do the trick and I won't need further surgery!!
Love and Happiness to All

Hi Carmel!

Hang in there sweetie! Maybe this pain management doc can find something that will work for you. I have never had an epideral, but I can understand your reluctance after your last experience!

I hope you can get some relief Hon. If you do have to have the Lap, maybe this time will take care of the trapped nerve they suspect and you will be feeling better! I hope you don't have to have more surgery though and I will keep you in my prayers that something else they can try will take care of the pain.

In the meantime, I'm sending lots of 's!

Update on doctors appointment....

Hey Carmel, sounds good, at least there is a plan of action, so to speak...my dr's just want to pass me around

Hang in there sweetie, sounds like it will work out, and if the epidural thing doesn't work don't be afraid to call this guy back and say "schedule the lap" the sooner they do the sooner you feel better, but who knows I've heard of long lasting anesthetics actually working long term........this of course wasn't an option for me as I"ve developed a life threatening allergy to locals!!

big for ya, keep us posted

Support for you

Dear Carmel,
At least you now have some options. I totally understand your reluctance over epidural for pain management. Maybe the doc has another way to help you. I can't imagine that type of thing for the long term. I agree with gidge, don't wait to schedule that lap if the pain doc just wants to keep giving you needles. Good Luck and keep us posted.

They've been my salvation...

I go to a pain management clinic and they've been my salvation. They have a whole plethera of things to try (not just epidural treatments). Make sure you're informed, that your pain clinic is credible (is really concerned with controlling your pain with methods that are acceptable and realistic for YOU and not "experimentation centers") the main way to do this is to TALK to other patients -- just engage them in the waiting room if you don't know any and solicit opinions. Make sure that YOU stay in charge and if they propose something you object to...simply object. That should be the end of it - no pressure.

I have a good one - actually one that was referred to me by a hystersister! They treat me with respect, compassion, and educate me as they're treating me. My pain levels dropped to an acceptable level that I can live with now -- and can function with. I say go for it! Hopefully they can help you and reduce your pain level to almost non existent. They can literally give you your life back in many cases.

Update on doctors appointment....

{{Carmel}},
I'm glad your Doc is trying to find answers for you I have to second everything Angie said....we see the same Pain Management Doc and I have to say they were truly lifesavers in my situation. They know pain-bottomline and hold no bars at treating it. Mine are very caring, compassionate souls who want the pain lowered so you can have that quality of life back. As far as Epidurals they can also use a Fluroscope to guide it and make sure it goes directly where it needs(lowering risks). I bet there is tons of info on the web about it. My best to you, I hope they are able to help give back some of the life the pain has taken away. Please keep us posted

Update on doctors appointment....

Ladies,
Thank you so much for your support, it means so much to me, especially now that my dh has been sent on active duty and I am dealing with these issues alone.
I must admit, I am terrified at the prospect of having any kind of needle put into my back, and I truely believe that if that is what this doctor wants to do he is going to have to knock me out first, my heart races and I start to sweat just thinking about it, I have never been so afraid of something in my life, but it was a horrible experience I had before.
I just hope that maybe he has an alternative to treat me.
You Ladies are a God send for me right now, your the only people I have to talk to about this, you are keeping me sain through this rough time.
Thanks so much!!!

Carmel
