HRT and Heart Disease

A few months ago my doctor took me off my HRT slowly. She said I needed to be off of it because of the heart disease that runs in my family. Now I thought I heard that HRT doesn't effect heart disease (am I saying that right?). Doctor said that isn't true and would prefer if I am not on it. But now I experiencing vaginal dryness....this is a problem with hubby. Tried a lubricant and doesn't work. Should I just ask my doc to go back on the HRT? I was on the Climara Patch .75. Any advice out there, please.

HRT and Heart Disease

Hi Rae!

It's hard to know who is right with conflicting information out there. Here's a link to a recent article from this site's News section which may be interesting to you: http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...d.php?t=302371

If your doctor doesn't want you on hormones, you can either choose to go along with that or you can seek out another medical opinion or two.

For now perhaps your doctor would be fine with prescribing a low dose vaginal estrogen to help with the vaginal dryness. I use Vagifem as part of my hormone therapy and it works great for those dryness issues. There's information and treatment options in this link to an article on this site called Vaginal Dryness. I think you'll find it helpful.
