That I would recover from this hyst similar to how I recovered from my c/s with my twins?
I am trying to be optimistic about my recovery as I know everyone heals differently. We can only talk about our own experiences and reactions as they happen.
So I am keeping a high head in thinking well, my c/s with the twins went awesome and my recovery was GREAT- so why shouldn't this go close to the same way?
Is this a reasonable thought? Or am I setting myself up for heartache on my recovery.

i also had a cescerean, so i was thinking the same thing. i was up and taking care of my daughter a day or 2 after surgery.
it just doesn't sound the same though from all the posts i've been reading?
i've almost have myself terrified of what the lack of hormones is gonna do to me. i'm trying to remain positive.

I hate to sound negative but....i also had 2 c-s ....I think possibly the differance will be....They are cutting organs out...well uterus and all .. so there are going to be numerous stiches on the inside I would imagine ..I think yall should be realistic there will be alot more to this then cutting into the uterus and stiching it up...I am sorry to seem grim ... I am preparing my family for me to be down for 6 weeks ... I took care of my family and new babies after c-s ...I am not for this... I want to recover as best as possible I have every intention of taking very good care of my self..I am not a selfish person just realistic ... to take better care of myself postop will insure better health down the road....to take care of my family...later-bye....God Bless....

Tracy -
While a LAVH is an easier procedure, for most, to recover from than an abdominal, I think to compare is not really accurate.
In a C-section, you have the incision but they are removing parts. With the hyst they are separating the uterus from blood supply lines and ligaments and such.
When I woke up with a full incision after my ovary removal, I wondered if this would be much like a C-Section recovery. I think even with that, because of the adhesion removal, was a bit more. But I think it was closer as within 10 days my incision was pretty much healed and I was feeling decent.
I know some women need less but even under the best of circumstances your looking at the 3rd or 4th week before you will be well on your way. Moreover, you need to take it easy as you will have internal stitches you have to worry about and heal right from. Were you told you couldn't vaccum or do wash after you C-section? You probably will for at least several weeks after your hyst.
I'm not trying to scare you, just prepare you.

I asked my doctor the same thing at my pre-op (I've had three CS) and she looked at me and laughed, saying she's taking things out for good and that I could expect not to feel human for at least two weeks. I'm happy to report that after 5 days I felt really really good, very similar to my CS recovery. While I realize that I have only one chance to heal correctly from this, I'm thanking God that at least physically I feel great. My incision/abdominal pain is really like it was after my kids. I've got to try really hard to continue to take it easy, which is so hard when you feel good. I'll pray it goes as well for you as it has for me.

I have had 8 C-sections and the recovery and pain gradually increased with each child. My GYN told me to expect my hysterectomy to be worse than the C-sections, because the cutting is more extensive. However, I told him that now, when I get home people will treat me like I have had surgery AND I won't have to get out of bed two or three times per night with a newborn. Also, when we have newborns, our bodies are also trying to make breastmilk which tires us out as well.
He said, with my positive attitude my recovery could be quicker than the C-sections but not to be too optimistic about less pain. I will have the morphine pump so I can regulate pain relief myself.
Oh, yes, he did say that I would be more restricted as far as what I can carry etc. because of all the stitching inside. No one told me that after my C-sections although they probably should have LOL.

i think some of the recovery depends on hormones...or lack of. any surgery is painful but the impression i get when i read posts is that hormone levels can really affect how you feel.

Hi ladies in waiting,
I have had four c-sections, the last being almost 13 years ago. I recently had a TAH and was worried about the same thing. I can tell you that I am feeling great! Yes, it is more extensive surgery because they are taking out organs, I had my ovaries and cervix removed as well. However, having a positive attitude sure does help on the road to recovery. And as was mentioned, you do not have to get up to take care of a crying baby many times a night.
Being that you have already experienced a c-section, I think you are more prepared for the surgery than you think. I know for me personally, I was more prepared. I packed for the hospital the same as I did for my c-sections and I had my room setup for recovery in much the same way as well.
The pain for me has diminished more and more every day and I am so pleased to find that emotionally I'm still me! You'll all do great and I will be praying for you all!!

I've had two myomectomies and a C section. The recovery is a lot the same, physically, but there are more parts inside that hurt. Remember that it is a major surgery, regardless of how you feel. You don't want to take any steps backward.
