Need Advice...going to have ovaries removed soon.
I'm going to have to have my ovaries removed soon. Just having the TAH didn't do anything to help my PMDD. I am now on Lupron shots every three months to shut down my ovaries. It's working, so the next step is to remove my ovaries.
My problems are these: 1. I am having extreme "cranky" spells...what do I do to ease them? 2. I have no libedo! I don't want hubby touching me...what can I do about that?
Thanks!
Carla

Hi Carla,
maybe you should keep a journal of your feelings and moods to take to the dr. Your dr can give you some medication to help level your emotions . It may take you a while to get to feeling like yourself again. Hopefully once you get this all worked out your libido will be back. Mine seems to come and go, I do use a estrogen patch and that seems to be helping me. I don't know what your options will be but tell your dr all of your concerns. Check out the articles in resources there is some great info there. Please keep us posted.
Lots of 's,
Carol

Need Advice...going to have ovaries removed soon.
Hi Carla,
I had the same problems you described and my doctor said I have PMDD. My ob/gyn prescribed SARAFEM for me. I have been taking it for 6 weeks now, and feel like a new woman. Actually, I feel like I used to before all my dysfunctional uterine bleeding starting about 18 months ago. I will have a TAH on July 30th, hopefully keeping my ovaries. Just my opionion, but for me, I'd rather stay on this med and keep my ovaries, then have my ovaries removed. But that's just me.
I wish you the best of luck in your decision! Sending prayers your way too!

Kristy & Carol
I had used Sarafem for about a year then switched to Prozac...since they are the same thing, just different lables, and Prozac is tons cheaper. LOL Anyway...I took Sarafem/Prozac for a little over two years and then the side effects kicked in. I spent from the end of December to March in a coma because of it and don't want to go back. Having a TAH did stop my bleeding issues but the PMDD is not helped until the ovaries are removed. It's the only "cure" for PMDD. I am so happy that I have found an OB/GYN that will remove them at my age. (45) I'd rather go the rest of my life with hot flashes, no libido and being cranky than to spend one more moment with PMDD. I had it EXTREMELY severe. Only 2% of women who have it, have it to the degree I do. So you see, this surgery is something my life depends on. But Sarafem is a good drug and for a time it really saved me, but it was not a cure for me, it was just a holding pattern. LOL
Carol:
I am trying DHEA now. It is said to help. I do see a slight difference. I have an appt with my OB/GYN on the 17th, and I hope she can shed some light on this for me. I'm glad I don't have the PMDD, but I wish I could be "normal". LOL Maybe I am wishing for too much.
Thanks for all ya'lls help!
Carla
