had surgery on june 22

Hi,
I am new to this site. I had a vaginal hysteretcomy last thursday, june 22. I have been home for several days, not having alot of pain. My biggest problem is fatigue and anxiety. Also, I am having trouble sleeping at night. I am resting during the day, not really sleeping just taking frequent rest periods. The thing that bothers me the most is the anxiety and feeling down. Has anyone else experienced this and how long should all of this last?

Thanks!
Fran

Hi Fran,

I had a TVH on 5/7. At about 2 weeks, I had the blues and cried a lot - I was such a mess! I also had trouble sleeping at night. The anesthesia was the main culprit - seems it took about 3 weeks to get it out of my system.

The tired you feel is normal. Obey this feeling and get all the you can - even if you have to take a lot of naps. I know we harp on that a lot, but believe me, you'll be glad you did . . . and we won't send the pillow olice: after you! You'll be back to normal before you know it - just be patient and take extra special care of yourself. After all, you are now a full-fledged

Hi Fran,

I had my vaginal hysterectomy/bladder sling June 18th. I have experienced some of the anxiety too. I found that when I use my pain med from the doc it gets worse so I'm just using tylenol and tylenol PM at night. I really don't need much anymore and am feeling a bit better everyday. I'm about 9 days out and it is almost scary how "normal" I am feeling! Good luck with your recovery too!!! Did you have your ovaries removed? I didn't. If you did, that could account for some of the emotional changes you might be feeling!

God Bless!

You sound like me!

Hi Fran,

I had my LAVH on the 22nd. I have some pain, but anxiety and sleeplessness are also problems. When I do sleep, it's wild, crazy dreams and I wake up in a sweat (not night sweats, I kept my ovaries). I really think it's the anesthesia. It's also so hard sitting on the couch all day being so bored! I'm still bleeding, too and I get all anxious that something is going to go wrong at any moment...especially since I'm home alone. I just wante dyou to know that someone else is going through the exact same thing, so we must be normal!

Karey,

Thanks for your advice. I am waking up in sweats also, and I kept my ovaries as well. I agree with you, it must be the anesthesia along with just the shock to your system.
I am really really bored with the sitting around too. Today I was up a little more and folded some laundry and organized some clothes, but had to lay down for a good hour and 1/2 this afternoon after moving about.
I appreciate your reply. Its comforting to talk to people going thru the same things.

I wake up sweaty, too, and I had a TVH with repairs on 6/21 and kept healthy ovaries. I really think I am having menopausal symptoms; I have frozen the family by keeping the thermostat at 72*, I have terrible hotflashes and nightmares. I sleep very deeply at night, though - and through the night (this is a first for me -- I had severe back pain before my TVH). The thing that makes me think this is hormonal rather than "chemical" (anesthesia) is that I am nursing, and my milk supply has dwindled somewhat.
I hope you guys feel better every day! I'll feel better after my cath is removed today!

Are any of you guys still spotting or bleeding? Mine isn't too bad but just won't stop.

Are any of you guys still spotting or bleeding? Mine isn't too bad but just won't stop. What about walking? Did your Docs say how far this soon? My doctor checked me out without any post op instructions. The nurse just told me not to lift anything or go up and down stairs. I don't even know when I'm supposed to go back for a check up.

There is yellow/brown spotting on my pad at the end of the day - the same color as new scar tissue when you were a kid and busted your knee on the pavement. I'm going to the dr. to get my suprapubic cath removed and plan to get a little more info about what I can and can't do then. My doctor seemed rather liberal with all I could do at check-out. I'm able to pick up my 16 pound daughter, but nothing bigger than her. She's an angel and seems to understand, so on the rare occasion I life her, she uses her strong little legs and gives a heave so I am not lifting "dead weight". (She's 6.5 mos old, so her seeming compassion really touches me).
I think most people have a post-op checkup at 2 weeks if they don't have any extraneous "stuff", like my cath or any other complications.

Kathryn
