possible postponement - brother stabbed

I just got home from the hospital after being there all night. My two brothers were stabbed last night. One is in ICU after having a portion of his lung removed. The other is ok, just a small wound on his arm. They know who did it, now the police just need to find him. Anyway, the problem is that I'm scheduled for my surgery on Tuesday and I don't know if I should go through with it. The docs are expecting him to be ok and possibly out by Tuesday but he's still on a ventilator so I don't know how they can be saying that. I guess I'll just play it by ear and cancel late tomorrow if I need to. thanks for listening.... :confuse:

I'm so sorry to hear about your brothers. Do you have someone who can help out your family during this time? I would hate for you to have to prolong your surgery and be in pain longer. I feel so bad your going through this. I know its hard to do but try to keep whats healthy for you in mind also. Of course easier said than done. Best Wishes to you and your family.

I'm just so worried that I won't be physically healthy enough to visit him in the hospital if things were to go wrong. It feels so wrong to be doing this while he is so close to dying.

I'm so sorry to hear about your brothers! How awful! I do hope he recovers quickly.

I would do what you think your brother would want you to do. I know that is hard.

Talk to your other brother and if possible other family members to see what they think. We have had too many unfortunate circumstances on this board of sisters and tragedy close to or immediately following their surgery. The reality is life happens around us and we can't control it.

With major injuries, its amazing the difference 24 hours can make. I hope this is the case for your brother and the decision is fairly easy for you. Whatever you decide, know that that seems to be one of the most amazing things about lifes challanges, things do work out whatever path we take.

i think your brother would probably want you to have your surgery so you could get out of pain. i agree with julie...talk to your family and get their feedback but remember the ultimate decision is yours. hugs and prayers to you...vicki

I am so sorry to hear about your brothers. I can imagine how difficult this decision is. If your brother is stable and there are family members who will step up to the plate to assist them as well as you during this time, then have the surgery. If you and your family feel as though they can not handle all of this at one time, then post pone for a couple of weeks until your brother is stronger. You have to remember that you are going to need assistance after the surgery. You may not be able to do alot of things like drive, lift him up, etc. I know you are in a lot of pain both emotionally and physically, but talk to your family and friends. You'll find the right answer.

I am very sorry to hear about your brothers. I hope and pray that they will be okay and recover quickly. I have no idea what I would do if I were in your shoes. God Bless you and your family and I am sure once you discuss this with your family you will be able to make the decision that is right for you. Keep us posted on how they are doing!!!!!
