going to the castle in 45 minutes!

I couldn't really sleep so now it's 4:49 am PST and I've already taken the shower and done the preop stuff they asked. I'm just letting the hubbie sleep for a bit longer before heading to the castle . I'm scared to death but only about the little stuff. Things like will I have to self -cath (just don't think I can do it!), the IV, the spinal needle etc. It's funny I'm not really worried about the pain or complications. Anyway, I'm taking my laptop so I have a feeling I will be on a lot while waiting for the surgery to start (7:30). It's been sooooo nice having this website. I don't feel like anyone understands how scary this is even if it's "voluntary". Plus if you've seen my other posts you know my brothers were stabbed the other night and one is still in serious condition in the hospital so my situation pales in comparison. Unfortunately I'll be in a different hospital so I'm not expecting alot of people to make the trip to visit. As my mother put it "I'll only be in for one night and it's no big deal". As you can see I don't have a lot of support. Can't wait to get this done with and hear how all my July 3 sisters are doing. Happy a great 4th of July everyone!:

Sandra, I am so glad you have THIS site/family for support. I am in Pacific time zone too so maybe you will see this. Sounds like your surgery is scheduled for the time mine was. Too bad you aren't within driving distance. I would come and see you. Take care and I will look forward to hearing how you feel coming out and how you are recovering!

See you soon on this side!!

Sandra, I know how you feel, never even addressed the idea that something horrible could go wrong.... I am more worried about the small stuff.....and embarassing things....

going to the castle in 45 minutes!

hi all! Well it's almost 11 and I'm in my room. I feel pretty darn good. I went with the general because the idea of a needle in my back freaked me out. I feel like I want to go the bathroom so bad but they tell me it's just the packing that's causing the pressure. I had such a nervous stomach beforehand that I had some diarhea (sorry for the TMI). There is some cramping but nothing more than period cramps. Overall, not bad at all!

Self-cathing is cake!

Don't worry about doing the self-catheter thing- it is easy and what's cool is you can hide it -I had a leg catheter and nobody even knew it was there. My husband never saw it and it was easy to maintain. I won't lie though -when I finally got it out, I was ready to celebrate- hang in there-hope your brothers will be ok and you, too

going to the castle in 45 minutes!

Welcome to the "other side" Kyjobr!
You will be glad you did it... The first couple of days are a little rough, don't be afraid to ask for help CONSTANTLY... Don't do anything by yourself. You may get dizzy and not realize how weak you are. Ask your husband to stay the night with you in your room if possible... Mine did and this made all the difference in the world.. the nurses get busy and your husband is your best advocate. Eat lots of ice and stay hydrated. Stay on top of the pain meds and don't "wait until it hurts" If you take your meds regularly , you will be more comfortable. just my worth!
take care,
your hyster sisters are here when you need us!
You're the now!
