New here - Any advice regarding the LAVH?
Hello, I'm new to this site. After having a Leep, and 2 Cones I am now scheduled for a LAVH on July 20th. My bleeding has been terrible and then we discovered a Fibroid. I haven't had children so not only am I dealing with the surgery I'm also dealing with this too. I'm scared of the healing process and hope my recovery time goes fast. Any advice regarding the LAVH?

Hi there, I am sorry that you are having to go through all of this. The fertility issues can be difficult to deal with.
I am 6 weeks out from a LAVH and just got released to start normal activity again. The pain from the surgery was not bad at all, but the exhaustion knocked me on my butt. The first 3 weeks were the worst and then you start feeling a little better everyday.
I wish you all the best and come here as often as you need to ask questions. Lots of your way.

Thank you for the response. I decided to join this site because no one in my family has been faced with this issue. Everyone is going on with their lives as normal while I deal with the surgery and the fertility issues on my own. There is no one special in my life to fall back on other than family no boyfriend or husband I should say. So I'm going at this one on my own. This site really seems to answer my questions and offer a lot of support. Thank you so much!

New here - Any advice regarding the LAVH?
HI,
I had an LAVH on 6/14 and also do not have children. Husband and I had made the decision long ago not to have kids, but the decision to have the surgery brought that to the forefront for us. I am glad I had the surgery and my recovery (next week will be 4 weeks) has been going very well, but I am now dealing with the emotional reprecussions of my decision. Before the surgery, I knew I could wake up one day and decide to get pregnant, of course now that option is gone. Funny things is, I don't think I ever would have done that but not having the choice now does make me a bit sad. After seen pictures of my uterus and talking with the Dr. afterwards we both felt that my fertility had already been compromised too much and the possibility of getting pregnant and carrying to term were probably slim to none. Anyway, I am lucky to have an extremely supportive husband who also didn't want children, and that has been a big help.
I was very anxious about this surgery as I'd never had any type of surgery before and the fear of the unknown was overwhelming for me. In retrospect, I spent WAY too much time worrying about things and in the end everything has gone much better than I expected. I already feel better and am anxiously awaiting Dr. clearance to resume normal sexual activity. Good luck and I think you'll find this site very helpful in calming your fears and giving you a place to ask questions and vent your frustrations or just deal with this whole surgery.

Concerned
I have read a lot of stuff on this site but I have a concern regarding the recovery. I am having my uterus and cervix removed by LAVH and I have read there is bleeding afterwards. How long does this typically last? Also, are you bed ridden for the complete 2/3 weeks afterwards? Or can you at least get up, drive, take walks, etc. Sorry for so many questions I have a way to go I know.

New here - Any advice regarding the LAVH?
HI again,
I also had an LAVH with removal of uterus and cervix. I had some bleeding the day I was released and for maybe 3-4 after that. Used a thicker pad so I didn't have to change it that often. Have the hospital give you some of the "stretchy" pants that pregnant women get after delivery. They are just a light mesh-type pant but are very comfortable. I just put my pad into the bottom and was good to go! I was walking around about 6 hours after the surgery, not quickly, but wasn't completely bedridden. Dr. encouraged me to walk a few minutes each hour as it helps pass the gas used during the surgery. I wasn't allowed to drive until I was off the Percocet/Vicoden. Ended up being on pain medication for about 7 days using it every 4 hours and gradually increasing that to every 6-8 hours until I only needed Advil. I thought I would be totally bedridden for a good 5-7 days but found that wasn't the case for me. Did have a bad "swelly belly" day or two but that does get better. Now at 4 weeks post op I am so glad I had this surgery and feel better and better each day. Don't worry about all your questions, this is the place to ask them

I'm so glad to have found this site. I know that everyone is different and I will never really know until it is over. I know that the end result is the best thing it's just getting there that makes me worry. My doctor says I'm in great health, I don't smoke, and I exercise so this procedure should be fine for me. We will leave the ovaries and only remove uterus because of the small fibroid and cervix with the LAVH. My periods have been terrible, bleeding and pain unbearable is the pain from the surgery same or less?
