Having Surgery 7/24 Total Hysterectomy W/bladder & Rectal Supports
Hi..I am new here but loved reading all the posts so far...I am having a laporoscopic hysterectomy with removal of left ovary, uterus and cervix and also mesh support on both the front and back wall of vagina to help with the bladder and rectal support....I had had TVT w/urethra sling surgery in 2002 after I had my 3rd son at age 40...that did help and I have since not had leakage...but my bladder and rectal area have prolapsed into vaginal walls...I also have had periods very frequently with some lasting weeks at a time and only having maybe 10 days blood free in between..this has been going on for few years..I always feel like a swollen water ballon in the vaginal area is ready to pop with alot of cramping that I never had before..therefore my urogynocolgist feels hysterectomy is the way to go with added mesh supports..I will also be using vaginal hormonal creme...I am not that nervous other than the mesh supports on the back end and how this is going to effect my recovery, ability to sit, walk ect as I still have the little guy to tend to...anyone else that has had this type of surgery???..would appreciate any and all advice and/or tips...thank you

Ribyra,
First of all welcome! My advice would be to make sure you know what kind of mesh the doctor is planning on using and make sure you do you homework and are comfortable with the mesh that is chosen. Ask you doctor if you should be using the vaginal estrogen creme pre-op as well as post-op. I used it before my hysterectomy and still need it even though my ovary is still working. Also make sure you have help at home for a good while, it takes longer to heal when you have the hysterectomy and the a&p repair at the same time. Hugs and best wishes.

Hi...thank you for the reply....I will ask her today about the kind of mesh..she did say it was alot better than what has been used in past and that your own tissue grows thru it??????...I believe she did tell me I will be starting the vaginal estrogen creme before hand and may have to use it for life.....I think the thing I am worried about the most is the pain as my body seems to reject pills such as percocet....I throw them up still whole hours later..morphine does not work on me either...so if anyone has any input on that would be great...also if you can tell me about the different kinds of mesh or where I can read up on it, that would be great also...thanks again

Hi Ribyra,
We Have The Same Surgery Date. I Also Am Having An A&p Repair Along With A Tvh. I Have Been Reading Other Sisters Comments About The A&p Repair And Now I Am Worried More So About That Than The Surgery. Mostly For The Same Reason As You, The Pain. I Wish I Had An Answer For Your Questions. I Do Know That There Are Nausea Pills You Can Take With Those Meds That Make You Sick Such As "visteril". You May Want To Ask Your Doctor About It. 16 Days And Counting! Best Wishes To You And Recover Well!

Having Surgery 7/24 Total Hysterectomy W/bladder & Rectal Supports
Hi..thanks for the best wishes....don't laugh but I tried to look it up under abbreviations and can't figure it out...what does A&P repair stand for..hehehe....I have had a TVT before, and at the same time a tubal ligation and urethra sling..there was some stitching done on the front and back walls of vagina but this time I am getting the mesh....I remember the pain being more in my bottom, felt like I really had to have a BM but couldn't...no one at the time explained to me that it was normal and I was straining to try to go...probably risked rupturing insides...by next day I went home and was alot better..hoping this goes like that......at least my doctor now was smart enough to tell me that I have to take stool softeners or laxatives the first few weeks so as not to get constipated and rupture anything...she also warned me about the pain from the gas trapped in your upper body and that moving around, walking and GasX would help to get rid of it...also I felt that walking in the hospital was much better than lying down...oh well..sorry if this was too much info..but let me know what the A&P stands for..I feel foolish posting this but I'm sure I'm not the first to ask .......thanks and good luck to you also...
