Sling 6/27
Hi all, I just wanted to post my story so that others that may be getting frustrated can see that time does help! I had a TVH, a&p repair, and bladder sling on 6/27. I stayed over 2 nights... yes-- a treat... I happen to work in the hospital so I must say I had the VIP treatment-- nice room, plasma TV, my pick of nurses... BUT back to the more important thing...
They took the foley cath out on 6/28 Friday and I couldn't pee... I tried and tried. But nothing. I eventually (or rather urgently) was cath'ed again- I had 1000ml of urine in my bladder. I went back to the urologist on Tuesday and they removed it again...still nothing. They sent me home with nothing and told me to relax and try at home. Still nothing. Back to the urologist office 3 hours later and got the foley again. So today 7/5-- back to the urologist office at 3:15. Bladder filled with 300ml, cath removed... and nothing... they checked everything. used the "scary" dilators... nothing... not a dribble or a drop. So we made plans to go back to the OR this Tuesday to loosen the sling. they taught me how to self cath and everything.
But guess what... when I got home... I pee'ed. I think my pee wanted it's own bathroom. I was more relaxed at home and everything worked out.
I just wanted to post a "delayed" positive outcome. Relax, it will happen.
Take care,
Heather

Sling 6/27
Thanks for your post. I am scheduled to have this surgery on July 11th and am getting nervious with all I have read on here. Are you doing well now? My DR has not been very informative which bothers me. I have gotten most of my info about recovery here.
Any encouragement will be appreciated
Lane

Hanna,
Please keep track and make sure you are emptying, you may need to self cath off and on as swelling may go up and down. I am shocked that they were going to release your sling so soon. Alot of women have trouble voiding post-op and they didn't have a sling. I'm so glad that you seem to be on the mend now. Hugs.

glad you peed!
I'm so glad you finally did it! Being in your own bathroom is a must (MUCH softer toilet paper!). Hopefully this will mean you have a great outcome.
I had the same surgery, same day, and unfortunately have some leaking when sneezing.
I'm calling my doc today because I'm still bleeding. Are you? I don't have a cervix, so I'm wondering where this is coming from...
Congrats,
Jane
PS I agree working in the hospital was a definite plus!

When did you have your surgery--how long ago. As I said in my previous post I am nervous about this. Would you say it is successful and worth it.
Thanks for input

Sling 6/27
Hi Lane-- I had my surgery Wed. 6/27. I had tvh with A&P repair and the bladder sling. I had no problems with anything related to the tvh. My problem was with the sling. I can say that I have had "NO LEAKAGE". My only difficulty was the delayed urination. I am glad I did it. I had some incontinence issues before and now I have none.. I was afraid if I didn't fix it now it would become more of a problem. Yes, I was scared when I couldn't pee but I knew that I was capable of "self cathing" to get the pee out if needed. It just took time.
Jane-- Yes, I am still bleeding. Just little-- almost like "water down" blood. It's from the internal healing. There are some stitches on the inside where your cervix was to close the hole per say.

Sling 6/27
Now I'm wondering if all this information isn't confusing me more.
I am of the mind that having the hysterectomy, A&P repairs and sling is the right thing to do, and I feel positive about getting through the recovery. I just wonder if it doesn't start a down hill spiral of other problems.
It is wonderful to here such good outcomes on this thread.

Sling 6/27
My thoughts also. I had the hysterectomy about 12 years ago. It's the bladder thing I deal with now. I am feeling less confident about it at this point. I have read everything from recovery in not peeing for two weeks to not doing well after a year. I know they say it's 85% successful. I'l love to hear from someone who feels like it is a success for them.
encouragement is what I need

sling also on 6/27
Just an update...I called my doc and went in for a check. She said I had some "oozing spots" and put some gel up there (ouch!) to stop the bleeding. I mentioned the leakage to her (actually only happened twice), and she didn't seem to be worried about it. I can say I'm very glad I had the sling done, because before surgery I couldn't jump, run, sneeze, cough, or anything without crossing my legs first.
At 85% success rate, I think the odds are in your favor, but I guess the best indicator would be how badly the problem bothers you. I'm very active, and too young (41) to be wearing Depends!!!
Hope this helps.

Sling 6/27
Wow, I am so glad I found you ladies. I have a few questions....I had a TAH and bladder sling on June 1st. I'm 5 weeks post-op and feel great. The first couple weeks I could not tell if the sling worked. It felt like I was still leaking. So, when i went back at 4 weeks to the urologist, I told him I thought I was still leaking and he gave me the impression that it is okay and I'm not. He checked me out and said when I coughed, there was no leaking. Well, the last couple days, I put a pad on to see if there was any leakage and I don't think there is. But sometimes, I feel like I am. Does that make any sense at all? Have you had any symptoms like that. He told me he has rarely seen it not work. When I went to my OB dr. the day after I saw the urologist, he told me that he thought it was too early to tell. He said sometimes after screwing with the bladder, you can have "urge incontinence". The urologist put me back on vesicare. Perhaps I'm having some slight vaginal discharge still...I feel like I'm losing my mind b/c I can't tell if it's urine and if I'm leaking. I know that it is much better than before b/c the pads aren't showing any yellow urine but sometimes I feel moist. What do you all think?
