Keep taking ibuprofen?

Hi everyone. I am 9 days postop and not really feeling much pain. Do I need to keep taking Motrin anyway? The Dr. just gave me the Rx but didn't say how long to take it, the bottle says every 6 hours around the clock and that's it. I don't feel like I need it for pain, so is there a reason to keep taking it? I have 4 pills left. Thanks!

Keep taking ibuprofen?

I would think it is also being given to us for it's anti-inflamatory benefits. Who knows what's still swollen inside.

Keep taking ibuprofen?

Hi Karen.

I didn't have the TAH, but had the LAVH. I stopped narcotics after 3 days due to constipation and took the Rx Motrin for about a week off and on -- only when I needed it or felt like it might help me sleep longer than 1 hour at a time. If it were me, I'd save the 4 pills for the inevitable day that you overdo things -- then you'll need it for sure.

Sounds like you're having quite a remarkable recovery. Best wishes for continued success.

Agree with you. Also, my doc wrote prn (as needed) for the pain for Motrin. So, if you are not having any pain, don't use it.

Keep taking ibuprofen?

I am now 7 weeks post-op and took vicodin the first two weeks, and Rx Motrin the remainder of the time only as needed, but not round the clock. I did make sure to take the pain meds just as I started to feel pain...always tried to stay ahead of it. The past couple of weeks I haven't needed the Motrin except twice for migraines.

Keep taking ibuprofen?

Thanks everyone! I have been pretty lucky and not really *needed* it for pain - didn't seem like it helped much anyway. After I was off the morphine drip at the hospital I only had Motrin and an occasional Norco which is like Vicadin, like 1x a day. I stopped those a few days ago, they weren't really making a difference and just left me feeling drunk! LOL So I've been continuing the Motrin but I really don't feel a difference with or without it. I only really have pain when I sneeze/cough and I think it hurts to do that even if you are on meds!? LOL Thanks everyone.
